There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. What is the purpose of the intake resonator system?

After opening up the right side plastic to attempt to change the air filter on my 2013 RT-S, I am curious why the spyder designers made such a complex and large air intake resonator system. A simple air filter on the top of the engine would be easier for service, have less restriction and open up the area for much improved engine cooling.

Any comments?

The intake tract is designed to optimize performance and reduce noise (per EPA mandates). Airboxes are very complex designs that balance air flow, velocity of the flow, volume of air, temperature of the incoming air, filtration rate, and other factors. All the while, it has to fit within cost and design of the bike parameters. ;)

To answer your original question, the resonator system is designed to quiet the intake noise. The different size "reservoirs" are tuned to different frequencies. The bike is quieter with the factory intake system in place.

It seems the real effect the intake system has is to make the bike run hotter. It blocks so much airflow that the benefit of a quieter bike is outweighed by the heat issues.
