• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Key Management

IPS sounds like a way to go... Saw my "Hooligan" buddies in Central Florida with them and it looks better than the pictures. However, I would hate to leave the IPS later down the road and someone knowing what it is steal my Gray Recluse.:(

Like Scotty (Nancystoy) said, I just have a routine and use the keyclasp that came with it. I'm a little upset with my dealer though... they lost one of them!:chill:

I have found that you have to train yourself. Make your shut-off ritual into a routine. You know...shut off Spyder, open trunk, put key in pocket, put helmet in trunk. After performing the ritual faithfully for a while, it will become habit. My last step is always checking my pocket for the key before I walk away, going through a mental checklist in my mind. Like catching the football, you cannot start thinking ahead until the ball is in your hands. Old codgers like me need these aids just for the simple stuff in life, anyway. :D

Yeah, and ask Scotty about locking keys in the trunk. It leads to great innovations...LOL:clap:

I lock the handlebar before getting off the bike, that way I have the key in my hand as the last thing I do before stepping off. Just an idea

Yup, I too lock my handlebars. It is the very last thing I do before I leave my Spyder. That way I already have my trunk opened and everything I need out of it or packed into it. Move the bars, turn the key to lock them, and then pull it out and take it with me. Working in downtown Flint, I just can not even think about leaving my key in my Spyder.

I trust they replaced it.

Currently, and not really and manly thing for the rest of you... Using the shut off routine, my key slips up my jacket sleeve and into its clip on a bracelet. Now if some our talented fabicators get bored this has some potential...

I used a medium sized binder clip and put it on the key and connected it to the key chain. That should work for now.

:agree:
Seriously, does anyone not lock the handlebars before they walk away from the Spyder???? When you lock the handlebars, its just kind of natural to take out the key as you do it... The Spyder is SO easy to steal if you don't lock the bars - anyone can come up, take off the parking brake, and load it up onto a trailer (or push it down down a hill, etc.). At least with the bars locked, they will be stuck going in a circle.

I'm one who never locks the bars, Just me but i don't trust the mechanism to unlock the bars.

We trust the handlebar locking mechanism just fine, but we seldom lock the bars on our Spyders. I can understand it with a pre-2011 (electric parking brake) RS though. If Nancy is not parked on the level, the bars get locked to prevent roll-away accidents. Too easy to release the pedal-operated parking brake. Beyond that we let the key's security chip do its job. If someone really wants a Spyder, they will get it in spite of any precautions, anyway. The security measures just slow the pros down, but they prevent casual theft or tampering.

I had a helluva time unlocking them after my risers were installed. Don't know if that was the reason, but didn't think it was worth the time/hassle to deal with it again.

I lock the bars every time, never had a problem. Sometimes you have to jiggle the bars a bit, but it's just like when you park your car on a hill and point the wheels into the cub (downhill) or out from the curb (uphill). Your car locks the steering wheel whenever you take out the key, and you don't worry about that. No reason to worry about locking the Spyder.

More importantly, have you tried to find a used Rotax 990 anywhere? Or a tranny? Throw in body panels, and someone could easily make at least $5k parting out a Spyder on eBay, amybe even closer to $10k. If thieves haven't caught on yet, they will soon.

I've got to admit that I've never even tried to lock my RT's bars...:opps: If my memory is still working; doesn't locking the bars also lock up the glovebox? I'm in and out of there a couple of times before thinking about starting the bike... garage door opener, gloves, sunglasses, BG meter... If that thing was locked up I'd just lose track of myself! :yikes:

And Taking 2 tablets of "Omega 3 Fatty acid Fish Oil," dayly helps your Memory, Heart and Joints!!!:roflblack:

I do not lock the handlebars. Maybe I should but if someone really wants it, they will get it, assuming they have the will and the talent. I figure that is what insurance is for. Maybe BRP will come up with an easier way to secure the handlebars and/or the parking brake. Generally, when I take it to work, it is right outside my window, so if someone is foolish enough to take it, I will be down there pretty quick with security.
