• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Brp HID headlight kit or aftermarket HID kit ?

With Honda East Toledo sale on the BRP HID headlight kit for about 215.00 after discount is it worth just buying own rather then a aftermarket HID kit ? If we were to use an aftermarket kit which should we use. We would have never paid 900.00 for the BRP kit but 215.00 doesn't seem to bad. Opinions ? Recommendations ?
 
The BRP kit has a better reflector designed for HID lighting. The deal at Honda east is great, I'd jump on that in a minute if I didn't already have them. If you have the BRP fog lights you will also need the combination harness. They have it for under $30.00 . Dennis :thumbup:
 
I have brp hid and they are great especially at this price!!!
Lights don't disperse everywhere like aftermarket stuff I had before and brighter too.
Personally, I am not too fond of 4300k which brp hid are but they will give you brightest light possible.
These are not white white but milky off-white white. Looks pretty white at night thou.
Instruction states no need to adjust but I did have to lower the aim point just a little to not to get flashed at night.

If you thinking about getting fogs too, this will be time. Otherwise you will have to tear down all over again to swap the harness or at least get the harness when it's only $30.
 
I wish the BRP HID for the RT was this price I would be jumping all over a set, the RT ones are on sale but they're still looking for $700 plus.

Here was my response to a simular question:

The big advantage of the BRP kit is that it is DOT approved. That means it's road legal in the US. Adding a non-DOT approved kit is not. Technically if you're caught with non-approved HID lighting you can be fined. Just saying.

The other big advantage is that the reflector is correctly focused for the HID bulb. This improves the beam and prevents the possibility of light scattering which can blind oncoming drivers.
 
I bought the brp hids, ups says they should be here today, ill let you know how it turns out.
On a side note, does anyone know what the replacement bulb is?
 
I got the HID 4300 from KB Carstuff & had them installed by my dealer. They really light up the night.

Are all of the components contained inside the light housing, or is the ballast external?

Not sure if I would need the dealer to do it or it simple replace.

How the heck is somebody going to know if you have a non-DOT approved HID bulb. I've been running with non-DOT lights since I installed my first set of European halogen headlights back in 1970 when the "law" was those crappy seal beam headlights. Anybody remember those things? I also lived in NC for 8 years and passed my "safety inspection" every year for my cars and bikes. They only worried that the lights worked not where they were from.

HID bulbs dissipate light differently than a Halogen bulb and are obviously much brighter. They require a specially designed reflector to properly focus the beam (such as in the BRP kit). This is especially critical for automotive on-road lighting because improperly scattered light from an HID bulb installed in a Halogen reflector can blind oncoming drivers. That is why aftermarket HID kits are not DOT approved and technically illegal for on-road use. Anyone can easily spot an improper HID installation, especially a well trained law enforcement officer. First, HID bulbs typically have a different color than a Halogen bulb, and second, we all know what it's like to be blinded by improperly scattered automotive lighting even if you thought it was just someone's high beams. It's great to improve your lighting but not at the expense of safety. I really don't want to preach to anyone, I'm just stating some facts and hoping that people will consider the safety of other drivers. We all share the road and we need to be considerate to one another. I'm sure no one wants to blind other drivers intentionally, it's just that many people don't realize that improperly installed HID bulbs can be a real road hazard. There are some well designed aftermarket kits that attempt to minimize the problems by providing laser aligned HID bulbs which try to dissipate the light like the specific Halogen bulb they replace in order to provide a better focus. Also you can specify a color that more closely matches the halogen bulb so your installation is not as obvious to the police. Whatever kit you decide to use please know the facts and please be safe and considerate to fellow drivers.

Why spend $700 to $1000 when you can get a better quality kit from one of our sponsors for a lot less money?
There is currently a sale going on from a site sponsor where you can get the BRP RS kit for only about $215. And sorry but the BRP kit is far better quality. It uses very high quality German Hella bulbs and digital ballasts and most importantly it contains replacement reflectors that are properly designed to focus and optimize the HID beam for both safety and increased brightness. It's also DOT approved, on-road legal, and designed by BRP not to interfere with the OEM electronics. There is also no issue with possibly voiding your warranty.

I had the BRP HID kit installed on my 2008 GS. There have been posts about electrical problems where people have used non-BRP HID's.

For 215 I would be all over that. Lots of cheap HIDs on Ebay but we all know you get what you pay for in the long run. Pretty sure that BRP's HIDs are plug and play no modifications required as in after market sets . All that being said I have after market HIDs in my RTS as I sure as heck wasn't going to spend a grand for BRP's HIDs .
 
Let's see, I have chance to get high quality Hella hid in correct housing made for spyder for less than generic aftermarket kit of somewhat unknown origin that includes harness kit for some vehicles that these kit triggers fault light!???

I think I will get brp hid before they are sold out. :)F
 
Evidently this is ONLY for the RS model. They said it wont fit in the RT. ANY idea as to what HID aftermarket kit will fit the RT?
 
Many here use the xenon depot hid kit. Myself included. Comes with two light bulbs (one for each side) and two digital ballasts. hardest part was drilling the hole in the back cover. Was still somewhat time consuming though.
 
Has the sale ended on the BRP lights? I just looked on their website and couldn't find them for less than $835
