• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi all,

Proud new owner of a 2013 RT Limited and I have something over 200 miles on it. So far, so good!

Filled up gas tank yesterday because the gauge was reading about 1/8 of a tank and the low fuel light was on. It took 4.66 gallons to fill up. By my calculations, I still had two gallons left in the tank which is substantially more than 1/8 of a tank.

Can some you more experienced out there let me know if this is normal or can it be adjusted.....

BRP CAN AM FUEL GAUGE

Just about every one will tell you Can Am fuel gauges are just relative level indicators of what is in the tank. The best and safest method to keep you from walking is to figure 100 to 125 miles start hunting a fuel stop. When my gauge gets into the red area I can usually figure 4.0 to 4.6 gallons giving me a 2.0 gallon reserve the most I ever pumped into a fill up has been 5.6 gallons. I have never ran it dry by carrying a spare can.b

You do know that the Spyders tank is 6gal, Not 6.60...??

I disconnected my analog gauges, and use the digital ones on the cluster. Of course I ride a 2012, and it might be different for the 2013's. Although it don't sound like it is. Enjoy the ride, and as already said figure on 125 miles to a tank.
 
Bobbo's right; figure on a 6 gallon tank, and everything falls into place! :thumbup:
That 125 miles between fill-ups is also a real good guideline too! :2thumbs:

IMHO, if I were you I would establish a reliable MPG baseline ASAP.....and use that to judge how far you can go , based on how far you have gone.......The technology used to tell you how much gas you have is a joke.....and if you rely on it , you will RUN OUT OF GAS sooner or later....that's just how it is.......Mike :thumbup:
 
Gas gauge

I disconnected the gauges and you the digital display. It is a lot more acturate . I would still only go about 130 miles.

:congrats: on the new:f_spider: and :welcome: You will find allot of threads and posts on the subject. You will never get the 6.6 gals in that tank. Your mileage will vary allot as well. Now when the low fuel light comes on you still have a gallon or so left. It takes time to find your range. I use one trip meter as reference. Have gotten from 120 to 186 per tank. Not that this helps but it is the way of the roadster.. :thumbup:
 
FUEL GAUGE

I can consistently go 150 miles before refueling my ST-S. It will then hold between 5.3 and 5.6 gallons.
 
The Spyder fuel tank is listed as 6.6 gallons, but the usable capacity is only 6.0 gallons. The rest is necessary head space for expansion and venting. The low fuel light comes on with about 1.5 gallons left. Yours sounds like it was right on the money. Most owners go by the trip meter to gauge when to fill, rather than using just the gauge or light.

If you want to avoid overflowing to the emissions canister, and the resulting gas fumes and ruining the canister, insert the nozzle just beyound the fill ring, and fill slowly (especially near the top). Stop as soon as gas starts to spit from the baffle vent slots. If you top it off, be sure to stop by the second time it spits. If you fill tto fast, or try to fill to the ring, you will overflow fuel to the canister...and that fuel will be wasted.

The fuel gauges always show less gas than actual. Many of us have disconnected the analog gauges--the digitals come on automatically. Less bouncing around than the analog gauges. On both my :spyder2:'s, 2010, and 2011 The low fuel light now comes on about 150 miles. It came on about 125 miles with the analog gauges. With the fuel light coming on about 150 miles, I find it takes approx. 5 gals to fill the tank. (30 mpg consistantly--for me--on both machines).

I also set one tripmeter to zero at each fill--so I have a pretty good idea when the light is going to come on.

I only ever go by the mileage, but for those who have the Garmin Zumo 660 or 665 you can set it up to warn when your low. I have mine set at 125, it will prompt me on the GPS screen and provide a gas station icon. The icon once selected will find the closest gas stations. After you fill up you just reset the fuel counter on the GPS, its also smart enough to only count down the miles while in the motorcycle mount. If you have it in the car mount it does not count down.

I ran out of gas on my second tank, posted a thread and got great advice, but probably the best advice was to buy a one-gallon gasoline pack. Mine is a RotoPax and it fits nicely in the frunk or the right-side bag. Funny thing is that I've never run out of gas since getting it. That being said, I haven't worried about running out since getting it, either.
