TO ALL: I am looking at going ahead and changing out my exhaust.. I have seen vedios and heard some pro's and con's about the differences of sounds, I will decide sometime this week-end on what kind I will purchase however, it appears to be really simple to install and I am sure I can handle it.. My question is this:::::is there adjustments that need to be done after teh install is complete either at the shop or at home station or is it just Mount and Go? Am I correct here? Thanks for the advice.. Oh and what do you all think is the BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK?

If all you do is swap out the exaust can and nothing else then you will probably be okay. Good idea to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes so that the ECU can "forget" the old settings and start immediatley to 'relearn' the new exhaust.

Best bang for the buck is largely a religious debate, but you might consider the BRP Hindle as that is KNOWN to work and sounds good by most accounts.

It CAN get more complicated if you also increase your intake flow through various options like a hi-po filter.

:agree: If you put in a Hindle, you are good to go with just disconnecting the battery. If you go 2Brothers or Motad Venom...you are prob. OK just with a battery disconnect. If you put on the free flow filter with any of the above exhausts you will want to consider getting the O2 sensor "black box" or the juicebox.

I have a free flow filter, 2 brothers single can and an O2 sensor on my bike and it is perfect! Sounds great and never a pop or backfire.

got more snot out of my tow bros, race air filter, took the tubes out of the airbox and 02 senor mod, would NOT recomend the two bros can, the damn thing blew out on me after 2300 miles, someone else had repacked it and I have a rant about this in the tire section. I will have it repacked, had to cut it back because of the damage, also going to bolt and nut the restrictor endcap because the damn thing wiggles loose, and being a wheelchair it is not a option to working on this just anywhere, the worse exhaust I have ever had. It is loud too, will see how much less it is properly packed but if you want a semi quiet pipe don't go with this one.

I'm wondering where you guys got the idea that disconnecting the battery causes the ECM to "reset"? Closed loop ECM's do not reset when the battery is removed. The learned tables are constantly updated and written to non volatile memory. The only way to reset the tables is to have the dealer reload the stock program, that resets the Block Learn tables.

Based on the instruction for the Hindle there is either a reset function that looks for a long term idle condition (unlikely) or it's just a laymans way to allow the ECM enough time to reset the base learned value at idle which would then be used as an offset throughout the rest of the program as well as seasoning the pipe (running it through a heat cycle)

Regardless, I changed out the exhaust and did the 15 minute idle as specified in the installation documents and the Spyder runs perfectly throughout the RPM range with the Hindle. Fuel economy is in the mid to upper 30's and there's no popping, surging or rough idle.

BTW, if you really insist on "resetting" the ECM there's an easier way than pealing off the tupperware to get to the battery, just remove the 40 amp main fuse.

I'd love to know how you got your mileage up to the mid to upper 30s...I got about 26 when I first got the bike...I'm now around 30...unless I ride at a constant 50mph in a high gear, I don't see how this bike will do much better than the low 30s...maybe if you don't accelerate rapidly, which, of course, is part of the fun of having the bike...

Okay. Here goes. I just spent $900 Two Brothers dual exhaust. Installed it myself. I love the look and the sound is pretty cool too. My bike runs kinda rough and is hesitant at takeoff and sometimes is rough idle gearing down. I too have heard restting the ECU by disconnecting the battery might help. I took it into the shop today. They hooked it up to the diagnostic computer and everything is fine. The bad news is they informed me there is not much that can be done to the pre set factory values of the computer. It wont hurt the bike but according to them there is a pre set range in the ECU and nothing more. They also told me all after market pipes seem to be having this problem including the Hindle. My next step is to message magic Man and get a Juice box. I am hoping that this will smooth things out. My two cents would be to take this into consideration when selecting a pipe. I went most for the look. I thought it would be plug and play as well but so far my experience has been a little dissappointing to say the least.:dontknow:

just got home re packed the exhaust cut the can so I could reriviet it , did that was just as loud with the repack and the restrictor, drive it 150 miles and looked down to see the piece of **** had ripped all but two of the rivets out, got pics but the camera is in the car. it was a nice day and then I was going to weld the damn endcap on, some federal law prevents welding shops to be open I swear, had to pull a favor and drive 70 miles to get it welded and got back too late to put it on, if the weld doesn't hold up I am going to drive as far as I have to to get a new hindle or micron, two bros is the worst pipe company ever piece of ****.

I sure hope things work out for you. I am really undecided now. I do not want to due the juice box or anything like that, all I really want to do is change out the exhaust with a hindle and do not want to complicate things for me with adding other assy and such in order to make the bike run smoother, I would just hate like H???? to start having some mechanical problems due to my own error in exchanging out the exhaust.. I guess I will have to possible re-look this idea, I am under warranty yet so I do not want to really start changing out the way the motor perform's then have the problem of warrenty iteams later on.. Maybe I should just go with the BRP exhaust, again I had better re-look this a bit..

We didn't take exact numbers for mileage and such but after an all day ride to and from the Lessburg Bikefest we put 5 gallons in. I would say the numbers are closer to 32 MPG, not the upper 30's like I reported.

If you purchase the Hindle(from BRP) and install it per BRP's instructions, you won't have any warranty issues.....IMO, the Hindle sounds pretty nice

UPDATE: I went ahead and ordered the Hindle from BRP and just going to have the dealer install it,, when its all said and done with installantion and it he is charging me $550.00---I decide to just have them install it instead of me doing it.. I'm thinking $550.00 is ok considering it is a BRP product and again the price includes the install..

55-60 in 5th gear is getting pretty close to lugging the engine. I don't hit 5th until 70mph at the soonest. The Rotax likes to run at mid to higher rpms - it's good for it. Heck - Many times I'm just shifting into second around 55 mph-

There's a huge difference between the shift points under acceleration and cruising steady state on flat roads. If I recall 5th gear @ 60 mph is over 4K which is far from lugging the motor. If you need to accelerate it's very easy to down shift, make your pass (or whatever) and drop it back into cruise gear. Moderate acceleration from 4K in 5th ain't any problem for this or any other V-Twin. No need to wind it out all the time as long as you aren't really lugging the motor under hard acceleration.

Another benefit that I've heard of from letting the dealer install the Hindle is that the Hindle is then covered under the Spyder's warranty (2 years) instead of the Hindle warranty (90 days??). I'm not 100% sure on this (and not even sure that the extra warranty is necessary) but I did read that here a while back.

Wow, 5th gear at 70 MPH,, I guess I'm treating mine like a baby cause I shift around 50 or so,, I think I need to change my driving habits with this things,, I am really easy on it for sure, I know I am after reading some of the threats on this forum, hell let me have some fun with it now..

i have the two brothers dual carbon can exhaust, i installed my self, i also have the two brothers juice box with stock o2 sensor,ran through the mode settings and took for an unforgetable ride, so far so good!!!! how ever i do notice hesitation on the start im going to try to adjust the juice box alittle, i'll let you guys know what happens!
