There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Micron Exhaust Help

well I went for a great 400 mile rode today but when I got back 5 mins ago I found my exhaust with a big hole on the rear inside. This was a brand new stainless steel Micron can which was a replacement for my original Micron red n black fusion can. This Micron was only on for a week and today was my first long ride with it on. I know there are others that have micron on and have not had these issues where on my spyder two have blown up. I am sure my set up is the same so why did this happen twice? The distributor was kind enough to send me a replacement for free after the first one but I highly doubt he will send another one. So I am out like $600 and have lost 2 Microns in a month and now back to square one again.:( Any thoughts?

That was a hellava explosion you had in the can. Doesn't look like a typical metal fatigue failure.

Looks like a rich running bike... with detonation of the excess in the muffler... note upper part of blow-out pushed outwards... or a temporary ignition shutdown while gas accumulated in the muffler.

What mods are you running?

besides the exhaust and fog lights, nothing

Had to be the fog lights, then. j/k :D

Don't know the reason but it does appear to be an in-the-pipe detonation to me. The Rotax produces a very powerful exhaust stream... but not that powerful.

Did the other one fail the same way?

Did you cut the ignition, or notice a loss of ignition/power for a brief period, during the ride? Some folks on other bikes cut the ignition while riding... that creates a surplus of gas from the unfired cylinder to accumulate in the exhaust. When the ignition is turned back on, a "backfire" is produced... the explosion of the fuel in the muffler/pipes. That's what this looks like... on the best guess.

It's not the Micron. I agree with the backfire theory mentioned by others. It's hard to tell for sure if it is running rich or it's just shadow on the outlet.

I would be surprised if it were running rich with nothing but the Micron changed. I would more suspect it to run lean.

The Spyder is known for exhaust system leaks which can play havoc with the poor muffler (which gets the brunt of the punishment).

You definitely have somehthing nasty going on there, though.

My guess is that it's a lean afterfire. Do you get any significant popping on decel? Check your slip joint gaskets for leaks. Unburned fuel from a too lean mixture will reignite in the exhaust system when fresh air is drawn in from outside......

Ah! Great Minds think alike!

I'm going to see if I can find one to go with yours! :joke:

Hey! Just kidding!

I'm just wasting Lamont's valuable server space (he deserves the treatment).... It don't mean a thing!

We're both right and that's what it's all about! :ohyea:

The serious thng here is that crazycanuck has a problem that he really needs to get a handle on.

Just getting a muffler that will take that kind of abuse isn't a good solution. Hope he gets it fixed.

Never blew-up my micron, however after putting on juice box I have considerably les decel backfiring. Also check pipe joint gaskets a severe air leak upstream in exhaust can cause additional backfires.:dontknow:

The first one also had the seal gasket blow up but it did not damage the actual cannister itself. Well I will send these pics to the distrubutor again and see what he has to say about it. Looks like I will be going back to the Factory exhuast until I get the green light from the boss:pray: to spend more money on another one.

By the way, I never cut the engine at anytime nor did I feel any abrupt loss of power. It still sounds the same except it has a big hole in it.

Looks grim. Off the subject, but did you receive my reply to your message? Just wonder if I am doing it corectly.

:chat: My "wrench" said to check the exhaust belt - that it might be to tight and is putting undue stress on the exhaust pipe. :dontknow: (Wait a minute - there is no exhaust belt :yikes:)

When the Nanny kicks in, how does it control the engine? If it kills spark, you've got unburned fuel/air mix going straight to the muffler, if it kills the injectors, you've got extra air in your exhaust. Either one could have caused this.

Looking at this photo I could not help but see inside the can, and am wondering where's all your fiberglass packing? :dontknow:

Some might have come out the hole during the blow out, but no way all of it did. We should still be seeing quite a bit of the fuzzy stuff inside?

A can run without glass, or too little glass can do this as it vibrates the outer shell in and out too much fatiguing the metal from too many stress cycles.

Though this can is not out product, and you did not buy it from us here at NMN, I still called Annitori (Micron USA) for you today to see what could be done to help you out?

After talking to Sam there I worked it out so we (NMN) are are going to send you a new Motad can so you don't have to wait 3 weeks for them to get more Motads in stock. I thought that was really nice of Sam to help you out like this as it is not something they made ether, but just used to distribute before Micron pulled out of the exhaust market. It really is nice to see them stand behind a product like this.

So, I am going to send you the one we have here as right now it looks like I'm the only guy in the whole country with this in stock, as even they have don't have one to send you right now.

It will leave today and you should have it real soon. :2thumbs:

Hope this helps out a fellow Spyderlover get back on the road quicker.

It's because he's from Canada...those pipes don't work the same there...

As far as Evan goes, only one thing can be said...classy!

Well I thought maybe if we could help him out, it all comes around in the end.

Yeah, whatever, man--you guys are just too good:

I called yesterday (at the very end of the workday) to order my green filter from NMN.

I explained to Pat, "No rush! Whenever it gets here is really fine!"

It arrived 20 hours after that phone call. nojoke

(For the twentieth time, thanks, Ev!)
