Bluetooth Questions What should I be looking for?

I just bought a Can-am GSX-2 in Medium. I am a little bit surprised at how small it seems to me. I measured my head and everything. I am able to get it on, and I am sure the air bag thingies in the cheeks are empty. But it does fit my head really well, top part real well, the cheek parts just push in at my cheeks a bit. I know the Large helmet which is another brand was not the right size for me as it was loose. And reading about how a helmet is supposed to fit (snug) I knew I needed a Medium. Anyway, I suppose this is right, that it should be snug, like it is. It takes effort to get it on, and when I take it off well my hair is a mess (not that there is alot of that). If I push up on the back of the Large one is moves forward really easily while this one does not, my whole head goes forward. I cannot move it on my head. If someone can tell me this is correct let me know. As a side note: One of my big pit bulls saw me with the helmet on, she had all her hair on her back stand up straight, she puffed out real big like, barked like a bansee and then turned tail and ran! haha, scared the crap out of her. haha I thought I would die laughing....I nearly choked.

So I would like to get Bluetooth for my Spyder. Do I buy the dongle? I am not interested in the intercom part, but I do want to get some helmet speakers? Which ones? How do I know what to get? I appreciate any help! Thank YOU!

I don't know much about these things at all, and have no one else who can really help me. I am the only person I know with a Spyder, anyway, so does the intercom part work with a cell phone? I have been thinking about it all and figure that is the point of that (other than if you have another rider with you, I don't so for me that part is not that important) but being able to use my cell is pretty important.

Different brand of helmets fit differently. If its comfortable, that is what counts. Usually the communication systems include intercom and you can use it with other riders if they have the same brand. Lots of people like the Sena units. I just got a set and other than one of them having a volume problem, they are replacing it. IMO buying cheap will end up unsat. Bluetooth is bluetooth, so your phone will work.

Thank you so much Pitzerwm, another question, does the dongle have to be Can-am's? Or can be another one? I am glad to know Bluetooth is Bluetooth (being new to these things). So I wonder what brand of helmet speakers I should get for this, or just stick to Can-am's setup for this, I am not fully happy with their stock audio system, I would like to get a deep bass with my Ipod unit, I like the thump, not horribly great, but some, so been thinking of a Amp for it, which would mean I need new speakers too but I don't know if an Amp will even work with a Spyder really? But I guess I can only take a stab at the Bluetooth thing and see if it is good sound or not. Then I could avoid trying to get an Amp if this makes it nicer. I don't expect anything SUPER but I would like nice sound from my music/Ipod. Thank you for the advice on the helmet, I am thinking it might be just a tad small for me. It is pretty hard to get on and off.... I can get it on and off, but it takes some effort. I appreciate the help greatly. I am so new to this (motorcycles) and I am all alone in my venture here, that I don't have anyone to contact for advice or help. No fellow Motorcycle riders either.

Another thought, maybe I should get a Bluetooth helmet? Already integrated? Anyone think this is a better option? Again thank you so much

Helmets come in two interior shapes; round and oval.

Personally, I need the oval. In that shape I use an XL.

The interior shape runs across all helmets of each manufacturer.
Example:Nolan are more round, HJC are a bit more oval, Hawks are oval.
Bottomline, you need to try them on and find what fits you best.
Once you know which fits best, you can avoid the "list" prices and buy them online at substantial savings.

Hi Paladin! My problem is there is no where to go to try on helmets, my situation is that I am in Mexico, the helmet I bought sight unseen was the BRP one based on their measurements, being I "import" it and pay extra taxes, shipping here is unreal pricey (like $75 for that alone) plus the cost of the helmet. I think that I too need a more oval shape vs a round. Being this presses against my cheeks and makes me have a funny look on my face a bit....haha, oh well...I probably can get used to it. But I cannot really return the helmet because well it would cost me what I paid for it to return it. I will get another one, and this one can be the one used for "guests". I am glad you gave me this info though! I did save alot on my helmet online! Which is great! Again thank you!

You might see if you can remove some of the padding in the cheek area, Any communication setup will come with the speakers and mic. If you go with a blue tooth helmet, DO NOT GET A "Torc" or a helmet with a "Blinc" system. IMO junk. I think all fitting helmets are tight putting on and off.

Check and see if you have a Craigslist.org there, you should find used stuff there.

How about a thinner cheek pad?

I'm not familiar with the Can Am helmets, but on most helmets the cheek pads snap in and out allowing you to replace them with a different size.

I will check out the cheek removal thing, but I don't think it can be done being it has air pumps in them for the cheeks, it has 3 different settings it says, but for me without air is the only option.

I bought a Scorpion EXO 500 helmet and everything fit well but the cheek pads. Since I got the largest (3X) there were no cheek pads that were smaller(thinner) I had to modify them. When I took the Cheek pads out the air pads were separate. I cut the pads open and removed some foam and sewed them shut.

Btw, got the cheek pads out and yes they are separate and I will be thinning them out, the helmet fits very well otherwise, so this will help greatly! You have no idea how much I appreciate this idea! :bowdown:
