• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I'm flying into New Orleans and then to Morgan City La. for the 60th anniversary of the USCGC AXE. I'm meeting 2 of my shipmates there and hopefully there will be plenty more. This was my 1st unit in the USCG way back in 1976. I lived on that cutter for 4 years. I know every inch of her. See you there.

Her home port was Mobile Al for years. It moved to Morgan City long after I was gone.
Out of the 6 cutters I was stationed aboard, she's the only one left that's still plowing the waters.

Flying not ryding? Scared of LoUiSiAna roads?¿ lol
Wish I was. I did however back in 1980 when I finished my tour on the Axe, I rode my ironhead Sportster with a 2.5 gal fuel tank from Mobile al home to Eureka ca. Now that was a trip I'll never ever forget. I could write a book on that run. Interstate 10 wasn't even completed yet.

Pretty neat to be able to do that. In four years you most likely saw quite a number of shipmates come and go.

On my way down from Washington the Arizona for the winter and to be able to ride the Arizona Spyder. We stopped at the Point Arena Ca Light House and climbed the 144 steps up the light tower. I climbed a few times back in summer 1967 to January 1969 when I have stationed at the USCG Loran A station 2 miles South on the coast.

The road to the old Loran station is gated, so could not visit that site. I did get a picture of the buildings from a distance. Quarters on the left and Transmitter building on the right. Site was given to a California University for a coastal research site.

Semper Paratus brother.
Service reunions are pretty incredible. After mere minutes with your brothers it seems you're transported back in time.

I have been tracking my shipmates from a Loran station in Thailand from summer 1966 to summer of 1967. Started about 20 years ago hunting them down. There were 28 of us (construction/first year crew), and that number of them still walking the planet is going down and down.

Thats awesome. Yep, I have lots of shipmates who've crossed the Bar. :-(

Had a fun time at the 60th anniversary of the AXE in Morgan City, LA.
The 3 of us were treated like distinguished guests. They loved our stories. It's a great crew.

The Senior Chief Bosn who is the Officer in charge (OINC) gave us 3 one of their special military challenge coins. He said they wanted something different so they had these made up. The ships motto is KICKING AXE. The words on the would be coin are French Cajon and it translates to Kicking Ax.

Very cool, neat that you were able to attend. I have had challenge coins like mine made up for friends and family members.
