There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. 600 mile Maintenance and other work done (parts)

I found a shop by my house that I have been to before and really trust the guys. They are not an authorized can am dealer, but they do work on almost any type of bike. I spoke with them for a while and would really like to use them (it's also 3 miles from my house) but I have a few questions first.

One of the techs did some research for me and said if they perform the 600 mile maint/oil change, there are 4 parts that he would need and I could bring them in myself.

They are
-oil filter
-crush washer
-seal ring
-O ring.
Is this correct, and if so where can I buy these?

They also said they would install my H.I.D's for $80 (I called where i bought the spyder and they said $285 to install).

Thanks in advance.

My two cents...take it or leave it...you're riding a SE5...they are quite touchy...are prone to problems...you are under warranty...you just spent a lot of money on a bike and are adding modifications...you don't want to do anything that would cause a dealership or BRP to void your warranty...just something to think about. In regards to the lights, no problem with anyone installing them...in regards to service, I'd be very careful...

I gladly pay the dealership money for maintenance...if anything happens, they know the bike better than anyone...

If you have a problem, you're gonna need to take it to a dealership...they might not like the fact that someone else who was not certified was fiddling with the bike, esp. if something goes wrong and you can't prove that it wasn't due to them...

IMHO, pay the money for peace of mind and have an authorized dealership do your service...as far as putting on mods, have your shop buddies do that part...

If you have an SE5 you will also need a transmission filter and O ring for the 600 mile service, and not again until 12K. I don't know what the seal ring is. The O rings fit on the filter caps. There are 2 crush washers, one for the oil reservoir plug and one for the drain plug beneath the engine itself.

I do have the SE5, does anyone know exactly what I need to buy and where I get it from?

I called the stealership and they said they are packed and would need to hold my spyder for 3-5 days. F THAT, lol.

I say you had better go to the dealer because they have to sign off on your 600 mile service in your manual to keep your warranty good . I did was not happy to do it but I did it any way ! It's a lot of money for a spyder so you need to keep up on your warranty !

Don't think it says anywhere that if you don't perform the 600 mi. service at an authorized dealer you void your warrenty.

:2thumbs: 80 bucks to install HIDs man go for it. Took me 4 hours to install NMN HIDs. But for service take it to the dealer make an apointment and tell them you will wait. I'm not saying that the techs for the :spyder2: are the sharpest knives in the drawer, but if they screw up you are covered.:chat:

600 mile service

If you look on page 88 in your manual and read it , I know that they recommend it but I say it is a good thing to do just in case . You all know as well as I do all these warranties are looking for any thing to get out of covering some thing when it go's real bad !

I most cases, if you can prove that you maintained the vehicle according to specs, you're okay. That only counts for "routine maintenance" like oil changes. For other issues, I agree with those who say take it to the dealer. Old proverbs come to mind....Better safe than sorry & Penny Wise and Pound Foolish.

I'm not going to the dealership for this maintenance, and it's not just about the money. I really didnt like them when I was buying my spyder but there wasnt anything close to me.

I called a dealership in PA that Bonecrusher put me in contact with and they didnt seem to think it was an issue so they are sending me all of the parts and oil i need. I paid $68 (including the oil and shipping) and it should be at my door tomorrow morning.

Ihave 500 miles on the bike now, and plan on taking it on a trip to the beach next weekend. I really want to get the maintenance and oil change done before I go, and the dealership pretty much cant do it by then.

I'll take it to them sometime so they can hook up the computer and do whatever patches/upgrades needed, because that is really the only thing that the place I am taking it to cant do.

Thanks for all the help/input.
