• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 600 mile service questions?

I know this has probably been asked and answered before.

What do they do on a 600 mile service for the RT SM5 other than oil change?

Is it a must do and if you do the oil yourself does it null the Warranty?

The Spyder I am buying is 2 years old (2011) with only 459 miles on it. Is that a problem that the 600 mile service has not been done (time vs milage) even though mileage is below 600?

Finally what is the expected cost? I have seen some people report here that it was $300 and others say you got ripped off at $300?

Thanks,
Bob

Just me..!!

But I do let the dealer do the first service so there will be no questions about the initial breaking in. They do check that everything is seating in right, belt tensions, cables, levels, pressures, electronics etc. Plus they hook it up to BUDS computer check to see if any codes have come up indicating a possible problem. After this service it is pretty much up to you. I do my own work and just run by and have them run it through BUDS and give me a print out. Price..??..varies with the shops and locations. So you pretty much have to decide for yourself...good luck and welcome to the roadster world..!! :ohyea:

As stated the 600 should be done at the dealer BUT in my case my dealer was further than i was able to ride at the time before my surgery anaways i did it my self the oil change and topping off of the fluids fast forward my 2012 RSS has 1950 miles and developed a watter leak so off it went to the Dealer for warentee repairs.
While talking to the service manager i said the oil was changed ect and they had no problem with the repairs as well as the Buds and remainder of the services all is well and the bike is home with a clean bill of health.

BREAK-IN INSPECTION
We recommend that after the first 1 000 km (600mi) of operation, your vehicle be inspected by an authorized Can-Am dealer. This maintenance is very important and must not be neglected.
NOTE: The break-in inspection is at the expense of the vehicle owner. We recommend that this inspection be signed by an authorized Can-Am dealer.

^ Conforming to above is your choice. All be it a wise one for warranty purposes. The choice is yours.

Some, not all, California owners are now using this maintenance schedule.

BRP introduced all new oil filters and the maintenance schedule was revised for use upon their installation.

California was held from this schedule for EPA reason only.

The break-in inspection and regular oil changes usually costs about $300. It does seem high if you are new to :spyder2:dom. The :spyder2: is a very high maintenance/high $ machine for those of us who are not mechanically inclined.

I do recommend having the vehicle serviced and having it checked over extra carefully, since it has been sitting so long. I am sure that there can be some issues that can crop up by NOT running the :ani29: for long periods of time.

The upside--you have an almost pristine "used" bike. Get it checked out mechanically and you are good to go.

Got my 600 mile check today...

$241 and an hour and a half. Extreme Motor Sports Gaylord MI. Great job.

 and if you want a MSF course my friend Tim McPherson has been an instructor there in Gaylord for 20+ years!
Just sayin
From Deep in the Hart of Texas!

Mine sat for almost two years and had less than 300 miles on it when I bought it. It came back like a totally different bike after the 600 mile service was performed. The belt vibration was gone. The engine ran way smoother and had more power. Definitely worth the cost.

OK thanks, I will get it done.

The guy I am buying it from is a Vet nut and builds cars. He said he would start it and run it up the street a couple times a month. So it did not just sit not being started or run a little. It was also kept in a climate controlled garage. He lives in Indio which gets very hot so he air conditioned his garage. So at least I don't think I will be looking at dried out or cracked vacuum hoses, belts, etc from sitting in the elements.

Thanks for the tips!

No, I pick it up this coming Friday! Yes I am going to ride it home.

He shot some videos of it yesterday and sent them to me:

I cant wait!

Not sure why, but some video's are not loading and these aren't for me.....perhaps they'll work for others? :dontknow:

I noticed that too.... so I redid the links. Reload the page and see if it works now. Seems there is a video tag bug with this version of V-Bulletin.
