I took both my Kawasaki Vulcan LTD and my RTS into the dealer, for year end service. I wanted to be ready for next years riding season after the big sleep for the bikes. I don't like them sitting around with cruddy oil, filters, etc.
For the first time--I had my RTS serviced for under $300 including installing new brake pads. When I took it in for service at the beginning of the year, (13,000 miles on the odo)-- I had to replace the rear tire as well as other service--that service cost me over $500. The Kawi service was also less than $300--not bad for a years worth of driving--(5000 miles) and still counting. I have put 7000 miles on the RTS and still counting. (My riding miles are down this year from 20,000 the previous year. Hope to do more next year.
I had complained in a couple other posts--about an engine running issue--it acted as if it was running on one cylinder and the bike was bucking and snorting all over the place--as well as sounding like the engine was about to blow up. Both times--water was involved. The first time I was in the rain on the way home--I stopped at a stop sign--and the problem kicked in. I took it to the dealer, and by the time I got there--it had stopped acting strange, and the dealer and service staff could not get it to do anything wrong--just another akspyderman senior moment.
The problem happened a second time after I washed the RTS--gentle spray--no power wash stuff.
It went away again on the way to the dealer. I did not want to embarrass myself again--so I let it go. No further issues this summer--but I did let the RTS get dirty, and there was not a lot of driving rain this year.
Today, they washed the bike after servicing, and guess what--it did it again. The problem--the coil was grounding out on the frame. They did some rewiring and fixed it under warranty. Now its running like a top.
