There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Air intakes and air/fuel gauge discussion!

Hey guys!
Recently read a thread that was very intriguing to me! I learned a few things  Here it is:

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?66947-Aftermarket-air-intakes

I had a couple questions and things to chat about so I figured I would make a new post.

Who has an air/fuel gauge and could you post a pic of where you mounted it and stuff? How challenging was it to install? I'd be mounting it on a 2012 RSS.

I want to get JT's air intake. I've read the benefits of aftermarket intakes on our Spyders; cooler engine bay, better heat dissipation, slightly better MPG, and awesome engine sounds as compared to stock! No brainer for me!

I will also have two brothers dual carbon fiber exhaust. My concern is that I don't want to get a fuel manager. The performance gain would be cool but not necessary. The spyder will already be plenty fast. The loss in MPG is a sacrifice I don't want to make for more power that I don't necessarily need . I also do not want to lose my decel popping which I love!

So here's the question:

How likely is it that I would be too lean and/or in a potentially unsafe engine environment with both JT's air intake and the TBR exhaust? I don't want to do any harm to my spyder. I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone with experience running an intake and exhaust and your observations.

At what point are you too lean?

What I know..!!

I have a hindle exhaust JT's air filter (using K&N filter)and just recently changed plugs and wires from BajaRon (nice crisp response now) and found the plugs burning perfect. Love all the sound that come with this setup. Air flow, exhaust and popping (which can be controled with clutch, if you have one). What I don't know is how your two brothers exhaust will work in this setup...hope this helps..mine is on our RS 2012sm5...:ohyea:

Theres really no blanket statement to cover that. there are too many variables. The only way to ensure you arent running too lean is an air fuel gauge. You can always pull the plugs periodically, but you still cant guarantee there arent spots in the powerband that are starving for fuel. That being said I run JTs air cleaner and a debaffled hindle with no problems so far. Ive pulled the plugs a couple times and they look beautiful. Ill pull them again when it gets really hot here just to make sure.

Will it be okay? Probably. Can anyone promise it will work or not work for you're particular bike? No.

I'm liking the responses so far! That's good news. Would be great to hear more user experiences with intake and exhaust with or without a fuel manager.

So how does an A/F gauge work? Anyone got any pics of the actual gauge on their spyder? What do you look for when it's measuring? What are the acceptable A/F ratio ranges?

Can anyone recommend the go-to aftermarket A/F gauge for the spyder?

would be the resident expert on afr gauge install. there have been threads on the subject a few weeks ago.

I posted a bunch of info on AFR a little while back. It all seemed to fall on deaf ears. I'm sure it's still around here somewhere. Threads get crapped up because of the people saying "i bolted on this device and my bike runs great"....without doing any dyno runs or checking afr first hand. People around here don't take the time to learn how to do any real tuning, they just bolt on fuel management boxes and other crap and tune with their a$$ dynos or with maps they were told work.....

Basically, the stock fuel management system does a really decent job at fuelling, even with an intake and exhaust. Very few, if any issues on SM machines.
Glitches seem to be with some SE machines on shifting.

PM me with any questions. I will help however I can.
