Any cautionary tales (about or related to the case/backrest) on a 2017 F3T fitted with the GIVI B47 Top Case with Backrest?

Ladies and gentlemen,

I have a good problem that I’m working to resolve. Turns out that my wife REALLY enjoys taking rides on the Spyder. I have an F3T with the Smoothspyder Dual-Mode backrest on it, which is great for a passenger of average height, but sits too low on a tall woman. I’m considering swapping for the GIVI B47 top case with backrest. Any cautionary tales based on experience with this model or proposed set up? Positive feedback also welcome.

Ps: Buying a Limited right now is not an option.

I don't have a lot of experience with it, but I have a 2016 F3L Special Series and I mounted a SmoothSpyder (well, I think it is) luggage rack and a 52L Givi box with backrest. I only used it with the wife for one ride, and she loved it. Before that, we had the same dual mode backrest that you are referring to and it was too low for her (and she is only 5'-2"). I now have a 2021 RTL and do not use the box for the wife to ride, but I do still use the box on the F3 and my BMW K1600. I love being able to take it off and take it into the hotel like a piece of luggage, although it can get heavy when full, so I have two larger soft side bags that I keep in the box and just leave the Givi box in place.

Thanks for the feedback. My wife is 6’2” so you can imagine the struggles. She never rode on my 2 wheeler, so I didn’t expect this to happen. Otherwise I would have gotten a Limited. The removable GIVI just seems like the way to go. Thanks again!

Guess that's the way to go, you only had three options.
If you don't want a different trike, or a shorter wife!

You could take the existing backrest to a custom fabricator and have them extend it for a much taller configuration. They take it to an upholsterer to have a back pad made that sticks out enough to fit you wife's back.

It sounds expensive, but the cost of fabrication, powder coat and upholstery for the back pad may give you something that fits perfectly and is no more expensive than a top case and back pad which I doubt will still be right for a lady of 6'2". Most things are made for people of 5'4" to 5'10".
