• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Any Weird cold Weather Ride Experience??

this morning I was on the way to the dealer on my 2010 RT for service and gas gauge replacement. It was 35 degrees out (not what was forecast when I made the appointment).. Halfway there I tried to set cruise control and it would not respond, after a few attempts to set it, the limp mode light came on and I slowed down to 20 mph from 70 much to the dismay of the trailer truck behind me, then when i got stopped I reset the unit then started again and the DPS malfunction light came on (New DPS only one month old)..
Well I got to the dealer and by the time they hooked it to the computer it had warmed up 15 degrees and everything tested normal... Has anyone else had adverse reactions from cold weather to Spyder electronics?? If these electronics are cold sensitive I may have to restrict my riding a bit.... :gaah:nojoke

Up until the snow and ice this past week, I've been riding in 20 +- degree weather. No issues. Course I'm relatively new to my Spyder.

I rode my RT down to 20 degrees, and Nancy's RS in even colder weather. No such problems. All that I did was warm it up until the temp gauge started to move. Electrical problems (if it actually is an electrical problem) that show up with the cold and disappear after things warm up, are usually caused by bad connections. The fact that you slowed from 70 to 20 bothers me. Limp mode is limited in rpm...but not that limited.

Cold Weather

I have been riding my Spyder in weather as low as 22 degrees with no problems. Did do a good warmup. Did not use cruise control.

This will be my 3rd winter with the Spyder, Been riding as low as 6 degrees , Can't count how many times under 20 never had a problem.
The Spyder is made by people who make snowmobile's, Shouldn't have a
cold related problem at 35 degrees. :dontknow:

I rode my SM5 in 4 degree weather the other day with ice and snow...was a trip. The motor and system loves the cold air...the vss system was flipping out when i turned on a side street with snow and ice and the rear wheel has very little traction and made for an interesting ride...but as far as performance of the machine...she was there...loving the cold air.

:agree:Being a service rep for 21 years, a jet mech for 20, I too have found that to be the case. I rode mine yesterday in 30 degree temps and no problems. I also do a warm up. Even when :spyder2: sets in the garage for extended periods of inactivity, I try to at least run it just to keep the juices circulated.

Do you have any lose fuses?:dontknow:
True, loose fuses or loose relays could cause such things...but they usually result in cascading warning codes, plus a good tech should have checked that first. It is a far less common problem on the RT than the RS. Never hurts to check!

Been riding year round since March 2008 in some very cold below zero weather and no problems because of the cold.

Odd LCD issue yesterday

Went out the other day, was 21F, cruising along & all of a sudden the LCD screen flashes totally off for a few seconds, then it came back with the start-up screen. I actually had to press the mode button just like when 1st starting up for it to go back to my normal running screen. All this while I'm doing 30mph down the road. No other hiccups besides the LCD screen. It worked fine for about 3 minutes, then did the same thing out of the blue again. After it came back on, pressed the mode button & all was back to normal. Never did it again, nor has it ever done it in the past. :dontknow:

sounds like a loose fuse issue, I rode last year in -25F at triples to work and ride everyday I can, have not had issues because it was cold out.

I do have a SE-5 so I can not say for sure the RT problem is different.

:agree: Something else is going on under the bodywork...

:agree: as well... Feel that just to winterize/de-winterize my lawn mowers and irrigation system is too much work, so I rather just run Gray Recluse around the block (or more if no snow) once a week minimum.

The cold air is like Natures "Intercooler!" The rotax loves it!!!!nojoke

Cold air allows for more fuel. Cold air is denser, so the EFI adjusts for it by throwing even more fuel into the intake to keep the mixtures right. More fuel equals more power! (That's also why the fuel mileage in every EFI vehicle drop in the colder weather.)
