• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I ordered a backrest from Utopia for my stock seat on my 2008 RS Spyder. Can"t figure out how to install it .Not much for instructions. Can anyone help me please.Thank you,Boots

I purchased it for my RT. I was looking at the instructions and they really weren't too clear. I do tell ya that it really wasn't that hard to install. For my RT I removed the seat completely and put it on a table to work on it. Be careful when you cut that you do not cut too much. There should be a plastic piece that you put on the seat and guides you to where you cut. A little piece of advice. Measure good where you want to put it. How far back or forward. I find I put mine a little to forward. Cuts done already. I do say I do love it tho. Its great especially on a long ride. Check and double check and triple check before you cut and do anything. Dont be afraid to get in there and do it. I am good with my hands but never worked on a spyder. Any questions please feel free to ask. I guess I wish there was a video on how to do it. I found one on youtube but they installed it on a regular 2 wheeler. Search for it under utopia back rest. good luck...:thumbup::thumbup:

I installed one on my Goldwing awhile back...Look at YouTube, I believe you will find a video on how to install on a Spyder...

Good luck!

They have instructions on their website. Put some foam or sponge in the holes at the back under the seat where you could lose bolts forever. Take the seat off and work at it on a bench where it is easier. Also after it is installed I took a good needle and thread and a sewed each end of the cut, just to ensure it does not tear, but that was just for my peace of mind. Also use some gum or something to hold the nuts in place when reinstalling the back seat bolts. These were tip previously posted by other Spyderlovers who pioneered the backrest install, except for the sewing part, which was mine.

Hi Boots, They say on their web site that you will have to take the cover off the seat frame to do the install........I didn't do mine that way. If you are willing to give up the factory seat push rod you can install the bracket very similar to the way they do it on the RT........Sorry but I still can't post pictures...Darn....Mike

RT & RS (GS) installs are completely different. I would think the RT is much easier.

On the RS (GS), remove the saddle & unstaple the back seat portion of the saddle cover only. The foam should just lift out as it isn't glued down, at least not on my wife's. That exposes the seat pan for you to position the brackets on the top & bottom, drill the holes and then screw the brackets together to create the firm base for your backrest. You'll at some point cut a slit in the seat cover to allow the bracket to come up through it for the backrest to attach. You'll want to be careful about exactly where that cut is made to make sure you don't have the material stressed in the final assembly. The hardest part I found was getting the material re-stapled neatly, especially in the very back where the clearance is very limited for your stapler. I also found that the plastic seat pan is very hard to penetrate with the stapler. My looked sloppy and I eventually shipped it to utopia (for another reason) and asked them to staple it properly while they had it. Looks and works great now. In fact, the picture of the yellow GS on their website is my wife's GS and is the one I installed.

(I did this install in 2009, so this is all from memory, which is always suspect)
