I've been thinking about buying some new riding gear for me and the bride. We've been looking at the Can Am Caliber Jackets. Can my fellow Spyder lovers post some info on these or other riding gear? What are your favorites? Does anyone buy from Leather Up? Pros and cons, fabric or leather? How many wear armor? I'm looking to find the right combination of Cold weather and warm.
Thanks!

My wife and I both wear First Gear warm weather jackets with a back pad and shoulder & elbow armor. Here in Georiga we only need warm weather jackets. For the wet weather the jacket came with a zip in windbreaker and use Coleman camping rain pants form Wallmart for under $20.00.

I reallky like the BRP summer mesh jacket which is somewhat misnamed. WIth the included zip in liner I rode in 30 degrees and was comfortable.

Check out Bajaron, He's a sponsor.

As far is I'm concern, The only way I'll wear a jacket with a Trike or Bike manufacturers name on it, They would have to pay me to ride around with thier name on it. [ie advertise]

I also like the Summer Mesh Riding Jacket by CanAm. It has a quilted liner and is warmer than you would think. I wore it this weekend with liner and it was in the 40's and I was very comfortable.

I have a FirstGear jacket for the cooler and wet weather. In hot weather I wear a mesh. The advantage of the fabric jackets is that you are prepared for rain and don't have to stop and change. I wear FirstGear riding pants when it is cooler and also if it looks like rain.

Riding stuff

I have always worn light mesh jackets in the summer and heavier Corbin in the winter . Mr Gerbing is my friend. Have it all, but normally just use a heated jacket. All jackets have liners and armour. I wear a flight jacket or Goldwing with no armour sometimes. Shame on me. Either full or semi helmet with full plastic guard and gloves. One of a few pair of boots and I'm good for the day. Frog Togs, Harley and combo for the rain. I really need to get one of the the above medium suits from our good vendor Mr. Bajaron, sponsor and the spark plug, oil and some great riding suits, etc, man. Simple things like gas to heat with, guy was just here, $612 by the way, often eat into my riding and assorted goodies. Not that I'm abused, but have to be fair and let my wife get her hair done every 12 months!! Yea, that'd be a nice surprise!! Gotta run down the road 40 miles to get a couple things at Harbor Freight. Making my 5 foot wide trailer into a 5.5 foot wide so the Spyder, as well as the 3 older bikes can be taken to the bike Dr if or when they quit. I have my favorite helmet sticker that says "I rode my bike to trailer week!" I have never trailered except for a broken bike to/from the dealer.
Happy "riding stuff" hunting.

Clothing selection: very personal and answers will vary a lot.

RE: BRP--I have one of the BRP textile jackets and the BRP multi grey color leather jackets. Both can be worn in all weather, just remove liner and open vents. I bought these jackets back in 08 when I bought my first :spyder2:. They are still like new--after 3 riding seasons--and look like they will last many more years. Leather vs. textile--the textile is better for inclement weather riding--but I still like the look and feel of leather.

LEATHER UP: they are ridiculous on their shipping--to me in Alaska--don't know about other destinatins.

I have at least three different colors of First gear riding jackets--That is currently the brand I favor. I also have a couple pair of First gear riding pants. Once again, pull the liners for warmer weather. You can get some good deals from Baja Ron on this site

I also have three traditional black leather jackets and a pair of riding chaps--so I also wear these when the mood hits me. I even have one pair of Revit leather riding pants. These come with a special liner that repels rain--it works and I have never had the rain soak through while riding.

I like the Motorcycle Superstore--when I can't find something local or from a SL supplier. They have several brands, colors, etc. and mostly in stock. Shipping is the most reasonable I have found amongst the big companies.

I can't speak to the BRP gear, but I can to riding gear in general. I wear everything from leather to textile to mesh. Each has a time and place. The leather is heavy, and can get hot, but it cuts the wind the best and provides excellent protection in a slide. Some are vented, which extends the comfort range. My preference for short Fall and Spring rides. The most versatile is a 3/4 length textile riding jacket (like the Caliber). Good rain protection in a moderate rain with most brands, lots of pockets for convenient storage, lots of good vents for use over a wide range of temperatures, zip-in liners for added warmth (or just wear a fleece jacket or heated gear underneath), and usually reasonably well armored and comfortable to boot. I wear the FirstGear Kilimanjaro and my wife wears the Tourmaster Transition. These jackets serve us for most of the year. For warm weather I like mesh. It can withstand a light rain with the weather proof liner, or a heavier rain with a rainsuit over it...without being too warm. Add a windproof fleece and the liner and it is good down to 45-50 degrees or so. Wear a wet t-shirt underneath, and it can cool you at 90+. We both wear FirstGear in that, too, but there are other good brands. If you can, go to a large bike shop and try on a few different things. All these basic types have matching pants available. We prefer the overpants, that zip up the legs clear to the hip.

Same here, I've been riding in mine all winter. It's the only jacket I have:yes:

I wear a hit-air jacket as having air-bag protection is vital if you're on a bike...I see no other jacket that can compare to the protection that this jacket offers...

I got the can am caliber jacket about 2 months ago. I absolutely love it. Very comfortable.
Also have the can am leather gauntlets. Pretty nice, but could use an additional layer on the outside of the hand to keep warm when the wind is really really cold.

I'd definitely buy them all again though.

My favorite jacket is the scorpion hat trick. It has 2 liners, the outer jacket is mesh and textile, then a waterproof/wind proof liner, followed by a quilted liner. Can be worn with no liners, one liner, or all liners. So far it has been perfect for me for all weather. Also has full armor protection and very comfortable. For riding pants, if it's cold, I wear a pair of womens yamaha leather/textile with quilted liner. If it is cool I usually wear jeans with my chaps.

I concur on the Can-Am summer mesh jacket. With the liner in (which is more substantial than the First Gear summer jacket, which my wife has), the jacket is good down into the 40's. I've put my rain shell over that for a bit of wind break, and it can go down to the high 30's. It doesn't come with armor, but I've been thinking of buying some (BRP sells it separately).

I also have the 2012 First Gear Kilimanjaro for cold weather wear. Very nice jacket, particularly around the neck area where it has an adjustable snap to fit different neck sizes.

I might take the armor out of it and see if it fits in the Can Am mesh jacket, once the weather warms up. It's the newer type of armor that's lighter weight and more flexible, and I suspect is much better than BRP's armor.

I really like Firstgear products and Bajaron sells them at great prices and ships faster than anybody I've ever ordered from. I have a Firstgear mesh-tex jacket with full armor for summer riding and a Firstgear Thermo suit that is the warmest thing I've ever worn but it is not armored. Our weather is usually not cold enough to wear it. My wife and I are currently wearing Tourmaster Flex jackets which are fully armored mesh jackets with an outer shell that's water resistant and zips on and an inner liner that zips in when it's cold enough to use it. The advantage of these jackets is that with a few zips they can convert from 90 - 100 degree use to 30 degree use. We have worn them into the mid 30's and been comfortable. We ride in jeans winter and summer. Armored pants would be better but I have a terrible time finding any that will fit - one of the problems you have when you're shaped like a ball. I carry a pair of Fieldsheer rain pants all the time. They keep me dry in the rain and break the wind really well when it's cold. They are too long, also, but they're loose enough and flexible enough to make do.

I don't mess around with BRP stuff. I bought my Wife a full BRP Summer Mesh riding outfit which she seems to like quite a bit - so it seems to be decent stuff - but not for me. I have a Tour Master Intake jacket that has been oustanding in it's flexibility and longevity. More for Summer. Got a Rev'it! Pacific H2O rain suit also that I keep in the bag just in case. Works great and goes on and off in seconds! I have a Frank Thomas XTiII leather w/matching pants that pretty much rocks and is good for fall and early Spring. I just picked up an Alpinestars P1 touring jacket that is just superb for colder/wetter weather and has a removable liner for when it gets warm. I also put the RC1 back protector in it. And for the real nasty stuff I have a Joe Rocket Ballistic 8 3/4 jacket that absolutely nothing penetrates - Probably the best jacket I own. Plus all kinds of base layer stuff.

Outside of the Thomas pants, I also have 2 pairs of First Gear - Mesh and HT OverPants - and a pair of Scorpion Deuce pants. So far that's been filling the bill!

My wife and I have 2 Can Am jackets each...too much fast food too quick. My Biggest Beef with the jackets are the zippers, especially with the liner. It seems the fine tooth zippers jams real easy, especially if the liner material gets in the way. The jackets should have a pair of pliers included. I don't know if the zippers were more coarse it wouldn't be like this but when you have 4 feet of continuos zipper somethings going to happen. Must be an easier way. Since it don't rain much where I live I cannot testify how well it resists water. But as far as wind and the cold its not too bad. Don't make the mistake of getting a jacket too clingy. You need it puffy so you can better insulate yourself. You can always layer your clothing and reduce as it gets warmer. Don't forget the pants. I wear fleece lined levis in the cooler months. The zipper on the side of ryding pants makes it easier for us DickyDoers to put them on and provides great ventilation in between stops. I bought my ryding pants on ebay for $59, which I thought was a super great deal until I found out it was made for NBA centers (like to see them on a Spyder). Had the pants altered by the tailor at Walmart for $10-15 and they work good, even though the knee pads are in the middle of my shins. Ha! Can Am apparel (and bags) is overpriced IMHO.
