• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Did you know that this forum has a search function?

Yea, really. It's on the upper right side of the pages. ;)

OK, so I'm a smart a:cus:. But I sure see a lot of the same questions posted over and over creating many threads of the same subject. For example, the dozen plus threads on the new gas cap just in the last 6 weeks. :dontknow: I find this annoying sometimes because when you are searching for a solution to a problem or issue the different response are spread among many many threads. It would be much more helpful if you could find several different solutions to an issue in one or even a few threads rather than having to dig through many to find the best or most appropriate answer.

OK, I'm done whinning now. Maybe we should have a separate forum for gas cap related posts. :roflblack:

I'll chime in on this one. It is one of my pet peeves to see a new name log in with two or three posts that make it clear they have never used the search function to see if this has come up before. The other is multiple posts of the same question in different forums. If this drives me nuts it must cause Lamont real headaches!!

Well get used to it.. It gets worse with every passing day!!!!! Is it really that they don't know the search function is there or because they want to see the name up on the forum? I use the forum less than a quarter of what I used to - just to avoid the duplication issue

I think I should start a new thread on Lamont's headaches. The search function didn't return any results on that.:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: Sorry, I couldn't resist.:wrong:

Are you guys trying to put me out of business? :roflblack:

It would be nice if members used the search first, but there are a jillion reasons they don't. Some are new to computers or have minimal skills or knowledge. Some just don't have time to dig through old posts. Others searched and couldn't find what they wanted...search engines can be frustrating at times. Yes, there are some that are lazy, but they are the minority. If I can be patient enough to answer the same questions over and over again, I'll bet you all can suffer through it. Try a little tenderness...as the old song says.

TBH, there isn't a training class for the use of this site. I, for one, will answer whatever questions I can and direct people to the search bar if I don't have an answer. I will do this because I was not born with all the answers, and I don't know anyone else who was.

To me, all y'all above are new. Have the same courtesy we gave you...
:agree: So true! Yes, the search function is great but searching through numerous threads yields so many little nuggets of wisdom from so many great posters..........well, maybe some of it doesn't qualify as wisdom but it sure can be entertaining! ;)

Really ???

Do a search on "Gas Cap" and see if what you get is useful ?

In my opinion, there is no such thing as a stupid question.
Only stupid answers.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Speaking of gas caps, my new one has really eliminated the heat on the right side on my spyder... :joke:

Couldn't resist....sorry....

and that is what makes this forum so great.

Gas caps, oil, tire pressures, seats... did I leave anything out? The great thing about this forum is that there's always SOMEBODY that will take the time to answer, no matter how many times it's been asked. Although FWIW, I moderate on a different forum and there, I will merge such threads into one.

You should try being on ADVrider or STN .... there, if you haven't used the search function they'll put it not so politely "Use the search function, noob!".

I'm New...!!

Actually I'm old but your always new sometime or somewhere. I find looking through the posts interesting, sometimes entertaining, sometimes hilarious...but agree with Scotty!

I agree with Scotty's comment

The only thing I find is the list is very dependant on what's put in the Search Box e.g. Gas Cap, Fuel Cap etc
So you could still miss threads also not sure if Lower or Upper case Font should be used and if this makes
a different to the results

I have noticed if you leave the search box blank and click on the advance search wording underneath
scroll down an you get The SEARCH TAG CLOUD

This list a lot of possible items eg. GPS, Hand Brake 12 Volt outlet etc
you can then just click on them to see what threads are available

I'm glad we have both the Search Function and helpful members who that will not only answer questions even if they have been asked before but will post links to thread to assist as well

We all benefit from collective knowledge and experience of each other that's why this forum is the best and long may it continue
