• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

So I'm trying to decide whether I want to bring a DSLR to Spyderfest or make do with just the phone (I really want to bring the DSLR.) I have a tendency to overpack for any trip so I'd force myself to only bring one lens.

If you could only bring one lens, what lens would you bring? I've got a Nikon D3100 just for info.

I'd bring a mid-range zoom. And a good flash. You'll need it inside the vendor village.

On second thought, you may want to bring a longer lens or zoom for the drag races, too.

What do you want to photograph? What lenses do you own? Are you using a full frame camera?

I'd bring a 35 to 105 zoom lense.

But honestly, my Samsung Note 3 takes photos almost as good, except for nighttime.
I also have a drift helmet cam which I mount to the Spyder.

I usually pack two lens. My 17-50 2.8 and my 70-200 2.8
With those two I've got the range spectrum I'm looking for and ability to shoot in lower light w/o a flash and play with DOF.

I can put that in a carry bag which fits in the bottom portion of my frunk and I can still put my helmet or other stuff on top if needed.

I haven't bothered with DSLRs since I got my Lumix DMC-FZ7 a few years back.
I also have a Nikon F510.....don't really get on with it so I'm thinking of replacing it
with a new Lumix DMC-FZ72.
My phone doesn't have a camera! Yes....it really is that old!

I love my Sony NEX 6 - but, when I'm on the Spyder, if it's not in my pocket, I don't use it. My iPhone is OK, but I prefer a good pocketable Canon for my photography, and have an old 10MP Canon, that I've used for years, and it keeps on ticking...

What kind of phone? I have a Nikon d5100 and I swear that my Samsung S4 takes as good as if not better pictures. I also use my ipad because it is easier to post here or on Facebook if they are already on the device I am using to access those sites.

Not a full-frame camera and it has a built-in flash. I have two lenses: a 55-300mm and an 18-55mm. I'll take photos of anything that looks interesting.

Between the two, take the 18-55mm. That will give you a reasonable wide angle view down to a slight telephoto.

Keep your camera phone handy, as you may not have time to grab your 35mm.
