• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

fuel gauge replacement - anything a/mkt available?

Dealer Replaced....

The fuel gauge on our '12 RTL would bounce up and down with every turn or stop. I told the dealer about it while having a service done. He stated that this was a known issue and there was a BRP replacement gauge that didn't bounce and was more accurate. He swapped it out no charge and it works great, just as advertised!
You might want to check with your dealer to see if they would do the same...

I didn't think the 2012 RT-S had the digital fuel and temp displays?

I have a 2012 rts and I am using the digital display all you have to do is disconnect the analog gauges and the digital displays will pops up

This is what our gauges do! I would check with the dealer and see what he says about the other gauges but, first thing I amgoing to do is unhooking the gauges. If the gauges are unhooked, then they are not needed any longer. Can they be reemoved and then replaced with something? I do not want to carry them with me if they are not being used.

The first thing I will do when I get home, in about a week is, to unplug the gauges. I will be as careful as I can to not loose the screws.

The gauges can be replaced with any 2 1/16" or 52mm gauge. I put a clock and volt meter in mine.

2" or 52mm Gauges, Blanks or whatever you want to put in there will work.

Some easy ones are Volt Meter, USB (single or Dual), wiring is already there for easy hookup. If you decide to put a cigarette Lighter plug in there, wire it directly to the battery on a fused line, do not use the wiring that is already there.

And save the Gauges that you take out, when you decide to sell or trade your Spyder they may want the original gauges.

And lastly ......................... do not cut the old gauge plugs off the Spyder, just tap into the wires.

Look in the DIY section here and there is a vidio by Finless Bob about replacing the gauges with something else. Good video.

I am sorry it has taken me so long to get this done and, get back to you guys. It has been cold here in PA the last couple of weeks. Plus I had to take my daughter to California. Anyway, I unhooked the 2 gauges on the Spyder. What a difference!! I like the digital gauges better that the other ones. Now here is my question, what do I do with the wires from those gauges? I am going to get a clock and something else to put in those spots. What wires would I use to get power and ground to what ever I put in there? I do not want those new digital gauges to go away because I hooked something up.

I believe that there are plugs available to fill those holes...

...If you want to take your time in deciding what to put in there next.

I have found several things to put in there. one of them being a clock. I am not sure what to put in the other one yet but, what wires will I use from the gauges that were there without turning of the digital ones I now have?

Well; there's always:
Warp Speed Indicator
Mach Speed Indicator
(Depends on how far or fast you're flying... :D)
Digital Compasses always look nice
Voltmeter
Ammeter
12 volt charging port
or
USB charging port

The original gauge on my 2011 did the same. I had my dealer replace it with the newer one (no charge) and that fixed the problem.

AND WHICH WIRES DO I USE??? Just in case you missed the question!
If it's the same as 2013 and 2014, and I would guess it is, Orange with red stripe is 12 volt power, and black w/ violet stripe is ground, on both gauges. The others go to the fuel sender and cluster.

Using the wires that are there in the hole will only give you power when the bike is turned on, so your clock would only work when the bike is running. Get a volt meter for one side and a round battery operated clock for the other side or get a dual USB for the other side. The volt meter will fit easily, the clock or the Dual USB will need a 52mm cap to plug the hole and attach the Clock or Dual USB.

feel free to call me if you need any help 501 580-5595, I have done this on several Spyders.

I tell you, aging brain syndrome is really aggravating. When I was looking up the colors and posting them above I was thinking about the fact they are powered only when the key is on. But did I make the short leap to a clock needing power constantly? Nooooooooooo! :banghead:

Thanks guys. I can ask the dealer today. I will be taking the bike in for some work on it. I will see what he tells me.

Both good ideas, is it hard to wire in a volt meter or power a clock? Are there wires behind the Base RT just no gauges, like the 12v plug in the frunk?
