Handlebar Risers?

Rockwall

New member
I am new to the Spyder world and just bought a 2012 RS SM5. I am 6'4" so I have been really researching mods to make me more comfortable on longer rides. I have probably settled on Rivco Driver floorboards and ESI pegs. Do you all recommend handlebar risers or not? It seems that they will help me stretch out with the other bike upgrades.:doorag:

Handlebar Risers

We had the 3" Kewl Metal risers installed on our 2010 RS-S. I am 5'9" and it made a big difference in the way I ride on this Spyder. I am sitting straight as oppose being at a sharp angle. Takes pressure off of the back. I am 62 years young.

I had three inch risers on my 2008 GS. It gave me a better sitting up position for my back pains. I have done nothing to the 2010 or 2011 RT's and consider the riding position there to be okay.

I am short. 5'5"

You guys are convincing me to get them. It seems that we are making our "Sport Bike" Spyders into Cruisers.:doorag:

Bar risers

I am a tall guy as well I did the floorboards as well as the road pegs from Rivco. works great but as for
the bars, I didn't want to cut mine so I got the Heli Bar risers and put them on as well as the BRP 1 inch
riser total 5.5 inch up and back it now has the same seating position as an RT or ST.it works great. I am a
big guy 250lbs. 6'2" now everything fits me.
Good luck and ride safe

Not making our 'Sports Bike' into a cruiser at all. Just making them comfortable to our different body types. I'm 5'7", have floorboards and 1" riser, the riser makes it easier on the back. Yeah, I do distances, but Spydee is still a sports bike first.

The GS/RS will always be a sports bike due to it's low weight vs. power. How you determine your riding stance has nothing to do with power. (Make sure you duck down when going for the gold....)

You have to find out what is comfortable for you.

I added them and would do it again. I sit up straighter and can ride longer and more comfortably.

I suspect you've hit the nail on the head with that comment. I'm 6'2" and happy with the standard bars and even the peg position - it just feels familiar. However all but one of my previous bikes have been normal road bikes. Probably if I'd ridden more cruisers I'd also be looking to add risers, floorboards etc.

I love my risers, I think with the footboards you'll want them (you're already going to change your seating position, might as well accommodate that further).

That said, I recommend reading my thread on the subject of my install of the ESI Easy Risers just to know the "worst case scenario":

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...ightmare-of-cable-slack&highlight=cable+slack

I'd install the Easy Risers again tomorrow, but I'd be inclined to have a dealer do it all just to avoid the headache. Just know that getting the slack outta those cables *can* be tricky for you (the trick, as it were, is to take off ALL the front panels to find the zip ties, and be sure to look for ties from the *front* of the Spyder too, i.e. that last pesky tie was reached by going through the back of the frunk).

Good luck! :)

Thanks for all the great experience from everyone. When I said making a sport bike into a crusier I meant that in a good way. I'm longing for the open road and my Spyder!:doorag:

Look at all the mods I made to my RS to make it comfy for me,floorboards(Seal) Touring windshield w/madsted breakets,4.5" risers(ESI,I Think)Corbin seat,Baker Wings, and Lights,Lights,Lights...Now it's a joy to ride ,not quite like my wif's RT but not bad.
