• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Fire up the Spyder, leaving work this AM and lo and behold, the brake failure message!. Thanks to this board, this wasn't too great a shock or surprise. Rode staight over to the dealer,(it's on my way home) and when I dropped it off, I was asked if I had a letter from BRP about the brake spring recall. No, no letter just an orange warning screen. I asked if he was sure this applies to 2011 models, and was told that it applies to all RTs. Well, news to me. Until the parts arrive I'm Spyderless. Now, if they would loan me an RSS for the planned trip to the Blue Ridge this weekend....

I would think that they could get you back on the road without waiting for the part. From my understanding the spring isn't hard enough to keep the cable from getting slack. They could adjust the slack and you'd be good to go. Also it could be that the cable has come off the front thingy and they can fix that quite easily.

There is no reason you should be Spyderless. It is easy to free up the cable, put it back on the front drum, and then wait for the spring to be shipped and installed. Dealers don't win any points this way!

You just need to adjust it if the cable is still on the pulley, if not put the cable back on and adjust the slack out.

Well, I dont have a RT-BUT- on my RS I got the brake faliure message yesterday when I stepped on the brakes:yikes:. Didn't know what was goin on. Called the dealer and he said it was probably a sensor goin out cause I only have about 3000 miles on bike and to bring it in and they would hook it up to the computer. My question is-will it hurt anything further down the line if I drive it? The brakes are working fine (now). I couldnt get an appt till Monday.

Usually on the RS's: low brake fluid.

Well, if I can find the brake resivour, I'll check that out- thanks
Brake reservoir is under the seat. It looks full, even when down a bit, but it needs to be right up to the mark. Be sure and use an unopened bottle of DOT4 brake fluid if you fill it, and protect all exposed surfaces. Brake fluid eats paint!

Thanks, I checked it and it "looks" full but I have to go and get some tommorrow and I'll "top it off". I did take it for a quick spin around the block and noticed it flashed on a couple of times when I went down an incline or stopped on a slight hill. (but not all the time-just sporatically). I could actually make it come on if I rocked the bike back and forth so hopefully when I fill it up this will take care of it. Thanks again

That is an almost sure sign of low brake fluid. The Spyder is very sensitive to brake fluid level.

Meanwhile

I no sooner made my original post and the phone rings, Spyder is ready, new spring installed. I will report back when I pick it up later this morning. Thanks for all the encouraging replies. As soon as my L3 and L4 will allow it, I will be in charge of Spyder maintenance. When that day comes, my messages on this board may take on a whole different tone.

I have made arrangements to get my spring changed out next Wednesday, while there they will also install my hitch kit. L3/L4 problem, I had my L4/L5 worked on while on active duty, the quack did not fuze or otherwise stablize the L4/L5 area - a year and a half later, L5/S1 now herniated, so I understand L3/L4. Hope you get to feeling better.

I hope your dealers downloaded 2011-7 (throttle body softwre upgrade) and did 2011-8 (new panel grommets) while in the shop for 2011-9 (parking brake spring).

Back with me

Spyder is now back in my hands with not only a new spring, but cable as well. For whatever strange reason, the cable was damaged and therefore replaced. The throttlebody upgrade and panel grommets were done as well. Yes, I was Spyderless for 24 hours but all is well now. Perhaps I gave the wrong impression when I first said there might be parts issues. That was a misunderstanding on my part. I cannot praise Velocity Powersports of Ladson SC enough. They have always taken very good care of us and all our scoots over the years. Thank you all for your feedback and support as well. Gotta go now, I hear a North Carolina mountain road calling.

See you in the twisties, Patrick:ohyea:
