Has anyone e-mailed Carlo..

I sent an e-mail this morning. I'll let you know when he responds.

I asked about the shock cams breaking when adjusting the shocks and if they will be covered under warranty. I pointed out that the operator's guide makes no mention of jacking the spyder when adjusting the front shocks.

Since I'll be taking my spyder in for the 600 mile service, I thought an answer from him would be prevent any disagreement with the dealer. If he says they are not covered, then that will be the end of it and I won't press the dealer.

Just curious if anyone else has e-mailed Carlo with a question/problem.

I thought someone posted here that they were covered? Could be dealer dependant though... :dontknow:

i dont think carlo really has the authority to say no or yes on a warranty repair. he may be able to help persuade kirk the head engineer to say yes thou. brp would not let you talk to tech so it's really up to your dealer.
my service writer have been very very good with getting brp to pay for warranty related repair even the ones that brp would not normally pay for.
if your current dealer is not willing to go the extra mile for you, try another one. i know for some of you thats not an option thou....

That is exactly right. Carlo interceded for me recently, but all he really did was start the ball rolling, request resubmittal to the warranty claims division, and then follow up with the dealer to see how it was going. He did seem to be able to guide the process, and shake a few things loose behind the scenes. I am hopeful that due to his efforts, all will soon be resolved. The dealer is the real key, Carlo is just a backup plan.

Actually, I'd like to know if there is a material problem with the cam. Is it possible it could break while riding? Is there any safety issue? That's what I would like Carlo's input on.

The warranty is minor. I'll probably end buying the part and then have my auto mechanic install.

Scotty,

I hope everything works out okay for warranty on your windshield.

You are unlikely to get this kind of input from Carlo. He is not an engineer or mechanic. His job is basically public relations (customer service). He can facilitate the warranty process, or guide you through it, but he is not going to be up on an engineering or design issue. I would be very surprised if any manufacturer would even admit to what you are asking them to divulge. Too much liability. On the other hand, I don't think any manufacturer would allow a widespread problem like this to exist without a recall. I think BRP got a bad batch off parts again from their off-shore suppliers, and the shock cam didn't meet their specs. Probably a situation limited to a few machines. I would warranty it just so they are aware, and so they can chase a permanent cure or find a new supplier, if needed .

I don't see how that cam breaking while riding would be a safety issue. The shock load spring losing tension might be noticeable but not dangerous IMO.

I must say that Carlo is very quick to call back. He left a message and I'm in the process of trying to get a hold of him during his work hours.

I am impressed.

It should be warranty, they will not brake other than when adjusting if the front shocks are not unloaded. They are stressed differently when adjusting. I used to see them break quite a lot on the old snowmobiles but only when adjusting . BRP has some powder coated black billet ones that are pretty cool and are probably stronger.

Check out my post yesterday. I had mine in for 3k oil change. I ask them to adjust the front and rear shocks for me. The front adjuster broke, then split. The service mgr said it was jacked up when they tried to adjust it. This subject posted on this forum is the main reason I let the dealer do the adjustment. How many others have had issues with the adjuster breaking? Just curious.

A good spray with WD 40 and let penetrate for a while and they change relatively easily with or without jacking. Definitely use a jack for the rear though.

Carlo (from BRP) said he talked to his technical support people and they said the front end should be jacked up. BRP is looking into the possibility of updating the owner's guide (since it makes no mention of jacking up the front end) or making the part stronger.

Carlo also said that BRP is monitoring this problem and the damaged shock cam should be warranted.
