• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. HEAT

Well a quick run out to Clearwater Beach last night temps in the 90's. Yes my right ankle is burnt and now the wife is also. I guess cruising at 35mph is not what the spyder wants. It's time to pull off the panels and wrap the pipes. I got under 2,300 miles on it so it time to make the move or park it.

I have a 2010 rt and was able to wrap the pipes without pulling panels. A big difference on heat for right boot. :2thumbs:

What year and model?

My guess would be 2013 RT-S. Join date with the forum was September, 2013. The RT-S and Limited have floorboards that your right foot is placed directly next to the "torch hole". Just a guess on my part though.

Hot air management..!!

don't they have a block off plate for that problem..?? Check with spyderpops sponsor on the home page. Wrapping the pipes will help but the fan will still blow the hot air out the vent....:dontknow:

yes it's a 2013 rt-s se5. Hot air out the vent doesn't bother us. It's the heat that comes from behind the right side panel and the boiling gas smell.

Well after riding for over 50 years. I do ride in jeans and a t-shirt. On two wheels I do ride in boots , but on the spyder with floorboards I thought I could ride in sneekers. It's over 90 here with 90% humidity. :banghead::banghead::banghead: I guess I'll need to go down and order parachuters jump boots.:yes::yes:

Because I don't want to end up like this. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/eat/mpo/4527650853.html

T-
shirt won't hurt (unless you are knocked off) but at least proper attire on lower legs and feet regardless the WX. At least high top --Leather--shoes or boots with thick socks to protect from heat. Makes no difference if your riding a two wheeler or three. DRESS PROPERLY!

I would never ride without at least light gloves. In case of Boo-Boo, that will be your first contact with the tar-mac. After 50 years of riding I would think you would know better. Half the heat problems of these Beasts is self created. I have been riding 63 years and also own a 2013 RTS and ride here in AZ year round in temps that occasionally reach 120 degrees. At that temp I look for shade and cold Beer. Please dress for the occasion and ride safely!

I have raced motorcycles at speeds that the spyder will never reach. I never ride without gloves. Oh yes when it gets hot we do find shade and a cold Ice Tea as I have not taken part in the spirits in 20years.

The Thread was started to say the spyder is hot and needs to have pipes wrapped. I was looking for ideas on wraping them.

Thanks for all the help.

I wraped mine and it helped a little i then added a pipe shield with an air gap like on open air pipes on a dirt bike it helped more than the wrap

There's been a TON of threads about heat attenuation techniques for your bike... Kick around a bit with the SEARCH function, and you'll be kept busy reading for about a Month...

And what are you wearing? Shorts and tennis shoes or proper riding gear?

I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers but quite often we get people who complain about heat and then you find out that they are wearing shorts and sandals. I always wear boots so I don't have any problem with heat on my feet. Good luck!

Welcome to the club of hot spyders and gas fumes. While wrapping the pipes will help it's only a small help and will not eliminate the gas smell and dripping fuel if you have that issue as well. Last fall when we purchased our 13 RTS the heat coming out of the crack between the seat and bodywork was so hot I had to drape a towel over the seat. Currently fed up with the results (or lack of) from repeated repair attempts my Spyder went into storage back in April. Sad because it's really fun to ride but the wife is scared to be on it so it's parked.:(:(:(

We gave up on BRP fixing the 2013 ailments. Decided to take matters into our own hands rather than parking the bikes. Took time, effort and funds. It was either that or non-stop complaining and not riding.

The problems are (mostly) fixable. Discomfort heat and most of the gas fumes are gone from out bikes. We ride them many hundreds of miles. Nearly 300 today in 100deg temps. BRP is not going to fix this, they are now taking the line that the heat, while uncomfortable is not a safety concern and a characteristic of the bike. Not something that will be revised under warranty. There is simply nothing WRONG, just the way the bikes ARE. They are done, and have said so.

Fix your bike yourself or move on. The 2013s can be great bikes with a bit of work, the 2014 is a much better design but cost a good deal more. Its your choice.

We decided to do what made us happy, regardless of what BRP is doing. And have many happy miles and more to come on our pair of 2013s. They are great bikes....now.
