• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Helmet locking methods?

With my BMW, I had one of those helmet locks that straddled the license plate - the helmet just hung from the lock. What are folks doing about securing their helmets to the Spyder. I pick up mine later this week....:2thumbs:

Nothing much, If my trunk is empty I'll put it in there. [08]
Other wise i just hang it off the handlebars.:dontknow:

Our state DNR ( department of natural resources) has for sale $2.00 gun safety locks. They have one with a coiled cable that I run thru the jaw of the full face helmet and then thru the backrest. Works great and the price was right. :dontknow:Don't know if that program is still in existence. I would check for you but our state government has shut down due mostly to political bickering about the budget and taxes:gaah:. If and when they get back to work I will see what is available.

Check out Kewlmetal.com a vendor listed on this forum. They have end caps for handlebars that are helmet locks. When we get our bike tomorrow, we'll know if we like them (we asked our dealer to put them on while doing 600 mi service).

Update: We love them! Good looking chrome, easy to use. Like any helmet left on bike, if someone cut the chin strap, they could steal it. But what good is it with out the chin strap. Never had one stolen in 21 years.

just googled gun locks and found that many police departments are giving them away free. Might want to check with your local city or county law enforcement office to see what they might have.

we use a snow ski lock, it is a assembly about the size of your palm and has a 18" cable that coils inside that is long enough to lock our 2 helmets to the passenger handles = small compact and works great

When we are unable to use the trunk or saddlebags, we use a RetracaSafe retractable cable lock by Pacsafe to lock to the grab bars or saddlebag mounts on the RS. The RT has helmet hooks under the seat.

I have these and they work well. You may need to spray with WD40 occassionally if they get wet.

They work GREAT

Got these many moon ago...yep, they work great...highly recommend if you want to "lock" your helmet when you stop....:ohyea:

Yep there is a helmet hook under the seat....but I have yet to find anyone who can hook there helmet there. Obviously you got yours to work Scotty...must be the 2011 model that works...have never seen a 2010 RT hook work...that is why I went with the KewlMetal end caps....

My 2010 worked, too. They are the same for both years. Easiest way is to fasten the helmet strap and use that...provided it is long enough to allow the seat to clear. That works for both my Scorpion and our Arai helmets. As an alternative, a loop of aircraft cable, heavy zip-tie, or a retractible cable lock can be used to make an extender loop. Slip the loop through the d-rings, then loop both ends over the seat hook.

I tried that with a trigger lock... the problem was that you could push the cabling forward and disengage it from the hook and then work the helmet off the bike... :dontknow:

Yes, you need just the right amount of cable. Too much and it is easily defeated. That's why I like zip-ties. they are adustable, and once you find the right length, they are easy to set the same...or just toss into your trunk for the next time.

I lock mine in the backrest & sport rack. Release backrest, lay strap into cavity of sport rack, lock down backrest.

The only problem is if somebody climbs on the Spyder your helmet could get marked up from the fender.:dontknow:

I use a pair of S&W Model 100 handcuffs. One end through the D Ring and the other around the handlebar. Works great and has a good intimidating factor. Can get online for around $25.00.

km endcaps.. but have to use the extenders, the seat hooks require the cable Scotty mentioned. :lecturef_smilie:
