There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I want Spyder/Ryker/Canyon dealerships to succeed

There's a dealership less than 20 miles from me. Unfortunately, every time I've had work done there, I've had to finish the job myself.* Their tech is a bit lackadaisical. The next closest place is another 40 miles, about an hour away.

* This includes work I've already effed up. Oh, well.

It's hard to find a good tech, but when you do it don't matter how far he, or she is, use them! I will do most of my own work, but I know my limitations!

We came home from Escalante the other day, via Torrey, Loa, Salina, Gunnison, Manti, Ephraim, Moroni, Nephi, to Draper.

I know you are unfortunately far from a dealer, mine is three miles away, but what must make up for that is the beautiful valley and town you live in. That's a beautiful part of the world for sure.
You rode right by my house, too bad you didn't stop for a short break.

We were being chased by the rain. We set off from Torrey in bright sunshine and stopped for breakfast a few miles down the road. Then we came out and saw dark sky’s rapidity building from the south.

Having hit torrential rain going from the Hogback to Escalante, we started high tailing it home. We just pulled into our Garage in Draper as high winds and heavy rain started.

If you are ever in Draper, let us know, you are always welcome at our house. We have a spare bedroom and always happy for the company.

Ron - I agree with you 100% I want my dealer to succeed. I want to buy my next Spyder from them - (they let me ride a '26 RTL while my service was getting done, and dang, it was nice! (And, you guys can check their work in July when we stop by!) My dealer so far has been great to deal with and service has been great too. They have treated me right so I drive the 1.5 hrs to their location.

As always, love to see you!

It's not so much that we check the work of others. It's more that it's hard to miss when we get into a job.

We are currently doing a clutch on a 1330 that a customer brought to us. He had the dealer install a new clutch plate set but it didn't last very long. When we got into it, the inner steel plate was missing, making the first clutch plate in the assembly a friction plate. We were surprised that it worked at all as the inner friction plate had nothing to interface with on one side making it useless. And the clutch pack overall stack width is somewhat critical to proper function.

Even the best tech can make a mistake. But putting a friction plate in as the first one in the stack? I cannot think of an excuse for it.

Here is the magnetic drain plug we pulled from this machine.

I was on vacation when this thread was being posted. Sometimes good posts just get lost in the mix.

This is Definitely the way I like to treat my Spyder Dealer and Technician.

We need to be a working team.
Everyone has to be helpful. I still don't
like the price of service work. But that's the way it goes. (y)

I personally will always make the ride to Baja Ron's anytime I need something done I can't do myself, I'm lucky to only be a couple hundred miles away from his place. There are 3 dealers in the Nashville area that sell Spyders. One in downtown Nashville which is a zoo to ride in, every time I am down in that area I am just waiting to get splattered so I simply won't go anymore, and that's in a car or truck, I rode my wife's Ryker away from the dealership when we bought it and that was enough. The second one is in Madison, which is not a great area and occasionally has a Ryker on the floor, so that tells me they likely don't see Spyders or Rykers in the service bay's too much and I want people who understand them to work on mine. The last dealer is in Murfreesboro, and the one and only time I took the Spyder there was back when I first bought it, when they made an appointment for me to bring it in, which I did, and they stuck it in a building full of ATV's, Side by Sides, and stuff; and then three weeks later when I went to take it back, it was still in that building untouched. I fixed the problem myself.
I want competent people who work on Spyders all the time, people who hold themselves to high standards, to work on my beautiful expensive bike. It gives me joy and I want to give it love. Thank god for folks like Ron.

I hesitate to write this, because I am not here to bash anyone. I sincerely want our BRP products to succeed. But for this to happen, dealerships need to succeed. Some are, and I applaud them for dispensing good, honest service to their customers (you and I).

I don't know how many dealerships may visit this site. But I hope my plea to improve customer service, where needed, might make some difference.

When a Spyder dealership came to Greeneville, TN, I was thrilled. Up until then, we were getting all of our BRP parts from East Tennessee ATV through Amber, the parts girl there. She was outstanding. Knowledgeable, smart, easy to work with, and very reliable. But it was a hassle for both of us. She would order our stuff in, but then she would either have to pack and ship it to us. Causing an additional 2 or 3 business day delay. Or I would have to run up and get it. Usually about a 2-hour time expenditure. Either way, adding time and cost to the event. 2 things that any business is always trying to avoid.

She was gracious, and I enjoyed working with her. But now with a resource just 5 minutes away, well, you get my drift.

My issue here has to do with the number of complaints we receive about dealerships. It is frankly discouraging.

I understand that mistakes happen. Diagnosing and correcting problems with the Spyder can be difficult. It’s not always possible to make the customer happy. But at least some dealerships really need to try harder.

Poor customer service does damage to the product name and diminishes the experience of what I consider to be an excellent machine. You can't treat customers like a milk cow (herd them in, get all you can, then send them back out to pasture) and expect them to be pleased about it.

We try to treat our customers like friends. And why not? Because that's what we hope they will be. This should not be considered 'Extra', or 'Above & Beyond'.

We get customers from all over. We have 2 that come down from the Chicago area. Others from Florida, New York, etc. We even have one that comes out from Arizona. Most have somewhere in the vicinity that they are visiting or passing through. But not all. And frankly, we love seeing them.

We just had a customer come in from Texas. They were raving about their dealership and that always encourages me. Honestly, I was glad to hear it. They were passing through and wanted us to do some things for them. I think they had heard of us and wanted to see if we were for real. They had a beautiful, low mileage, late model RT. Great people! But when we started taking panels off their bike, disappointment ensued.

Daniel came to me and showed me what he'd found. Fortunately, the customers where there to see as the panels were removed. We would have shown them what was discovered in any case. But since they witnessed the removal, it precluded any suspicions that we might have done the damage.

Brake fluid had been allowed to run onto the panel below the reservoir. The paint had blistered up along the ridgeline where it pooled and had dried. It should not have been allowed to contact the paint in the first place. But if it had been removed and cleaned in a timely manner, there would have been no damage.

The paint damaged panel had not been properly located in front so one of the attachment holes didn't line up. We speculate that a pry tool had been used in an attempt to align the holes and it broke the plastic. With the hole still misaligned, there was no push rivet present. Other panels were also missing attachment hardware.

Now none of this damage was visible with panels in place. And even with the missing hardware, the panels were not going to come off. So, cosmetically, the bike looks just fine. And nothing was critical. Still, I know how I would feel. And I think reaction to these issues would be pretty universal.

I wish I could say that this kind of thing is rare.

Please, Dealer Techs! These are expensive machines that most owners love and take very good care of. Take some pride in your work if you are not already doing so. Don’t hide your mistakes. Own them and make it right. That is all any of us are asking.
I think that small, locally owned (and managed) dealerships are probably better at customer service than the corporate behemoths that dominate the Spyder landscape. The latter, I think, tend to have more of a bottom line, short term profit-taking mentality.

I don't know if there's any way to fix this, but if BRP would authorize independent shops to perform warranty work and obtain access to parts, tools and software, it would certainly help, I think. I'm not going to hold my breath...

I would love to have a BajaRon place 180 miles away. In the west that is almost a next door neighbor. The closest dealer to me that will touch my over 10 year old Spyder is 70 miles away. He is the one who finally put my shift shaft in, indexed the shift lever 45° off and wondered why it wouldn't shift, wanting to tear down the transmission to find the problem. Needless to say, I brought it home, spotted the problem in a couple of minutes of examination, fixed it, and now it shifts just fine. That dealer has since dropped the Can Am Spyder line. His showroom is full of SxS's and a few motorcycles. I hope I have found an independent shop that will work on it, maybe, maybe not, we will see. I am with Ron. I want a large number of Can Am Spyder stores to be successful. Good for us, good for future customers, good for the growth of the Spyder. The rule of business is grow or die. Can Am Spyder must grow or we will be riding orphans.
Where do you go now, Paul?

I go to Rusty's Motorcycle shop in South Provo by the cemetary. He is good and his pricing is fair. He is fixing a shifting problem, a broken spring in the shifting hydraulics. I can't do much any more. I can do an oil change, and maybe take the rear wheel off to get a new tire, but not much else. Too old to be crawling around on the cement.

Long time no see old friend, @UtahPete. I am so happy to see you are still around. PM me and tell me what's been going on. How is your wife doing? How are you doing? Any trouble with the knees?
