• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Has anyone installed a set of these on their Spyder? I just ordered a set for my '08 GS and was looking for some tips/hints to install before I attempt.

Cut the olds off, and get a good contact with the metal to glue. I put some glue on the bars and some glue in the grips to get em to slide into place. I suggest getting a throttle boss too :)

Thanks

I got the throttle boss as well.

What kind of glue? And how hard is it to connect throttle cable?

I used Yamaha grip glue ( I think it was like 8 bucks for a tube ). The throttle boss I was talking about is the little crampbuster looking lip on the end, no cable cause its not "cruise control" its just somewhere you can rest your palm and stretch your fingers!

I don't use glue, I use black tape and it works great for me. :doorag:

Yes, I know. I got the throttle boss too...but, I'm talking abou the grip. I believe the grip itself has a cable connecting the throttle to it... that is what I was asking about.

I am going to have to defer to people that are smarter than me to be sure, but I think it has a throttle sleeve that you glue it to that has that cable connected, at least that is what I did, maybe my grips I took off werent stock!

Now Im interested, this is one of the few things I have done personally and now I am worried I did it wrong!!!

If you got the 7/8" universal grips you use your stock throttle sleeve.

Didn't glue either side on Queen B's Spyder. Throttle sleeve has nubs on it that hold the 7/8" Comfort plenty snug, hasn't moved in a year's riding. Like previous posts say a spiral wrap of electrician's tape will hold the clutch side plenty tight. Not using glue will allow you to remove the grips easier if you should decide to do further mods to the handlebars such as adding Risers at a later date like I did.

:agree: no glue,no tape. Slid them on and off I went. 2 years now and no problems.

I traditionally use black tape and did on my wife's GS, but since you'll not be picking the Spyder up from a fall by the handlebars, it may not be needed in this case. I never use glue. That just means you destroy your grips if you have to remove them. No sense in doing that!

Black electrical tape...can't go wrong...true me...I'm no wrencher and I managed to do it...:)
Get a Throttle Boss or Throttle Meister....
