Looking at Running/Fog Lights - Which do you recommend? Which LED & Fog Light kit?

Is there a major difference between Lamonster H4 LED Headlight and Slingmods Elite LED HD 360 Headlight Conversion Kit in regards to brightness/clarity.

Same questions for fog lights, Lamonster IPS™ F3 LED Fog Light Kit versus Arc LED Daytime Running Light / Fog Light Replacement Kit. The later has daytime running lights, but is either brighter..?

Thanks!

I can’t give you a comparison but I have the Slingmods & couldn’t be happier. My thoughts are they really can’t be much different.

I have the IPS fog lights and they are great. They put the led headlights to shame which are pretty bright as well. I use them regularly so I can see the glow in deer's or other animals eyes while they are still off of the road in the trees on some of the secondary mountain roads around here.

Unfortunately they are not bright enough to shine through a panel truck in a driveway that deer can hide behind.

Picking up 2021 RT Ltd next weekend. Live in Seattle/Tacoma area, so fog lights are a must have. Any suggestions?

I have always said you can't have too many lights. We put fogs/driving lights on all our Spyders. Even though we did not live in "foggy" areas, the extra lighting was always welcome. All the lights, all the time were common practice when we lived in Alaska. And yes, in summer we had almost 23 hours of daylight where we were. In Arkansas, we did not see much "extra" lighting going on, so most of the time during the day, we used what was automatic.

I mounted a set on the inner front fenders. Ran the wiring to the accessory lead on right side. Mine are spots, but floods are an option. many choices on Amazon...

If you want some fog lights that are plug and play Lamonster Garage has a great set of fog lights. I believe Spyderpops does too.

I told my dermatologist that folks in the Pacific northwest don’t tan in the winter, they rust. That raised a chuckle!

I recommend a color temperature of 3,000 to 3,500 Kelvin. Better distance for you and less glare for oncoming drivers. Higher color temperatures provide more light although shorter distance and more glare for oncoming drivers. Plexus Plastic Window Cleaner helps to reduce glare from oncoming drivers. Aerostich and some other glove makers include a wiper blade on one finger -- very useful.

Hi Bert. I'm in agreement on the lower Kelvin temperature rated lights... but they are hard to find as the marketing world has convinced the unknowing buyer that the high Kelvin temperature lights (those glaring white to bluish lights) are the best. They provide a lot of glare for oncoming drivers... so they must be the best and brightest - NOT! The lower Kelvin temperature lights not only put more usable light on the road, but they also are less fatiguing and easier on the eyes. However, they are harder to find and typically are found in high-end driving and fog lights.

Soon as I get time to locate, or maybe fabricate a pair of brackets, I will likely put a pair of Denali D3 Combos with their Dial Dim controller on my 21RTL. These are in the top shelf group for quality and construction and the Dial Dim can be configured to run the D3 lights at a reduced power setting while on Low Beam, and then increase the power up to 100% when High Beam in selected. The only drawback is the $$$.

Not a direct “fog” light but SpyderPops led bump skid has helped few encounters fog & critters:firstplace::2thumbs:

Thank you, Bert... good suggestion on Kelvin... I really dislike the glare and need light for distance... also use Plexus Plastic Window Cleaner... very useful

I want to purchase running/fog lights for my 2024 RTL. I have Clearwater on my BMW 1600 and really like them. I like Clearwater because they have cups that fit over the white LEDs and my them yellow. Yellow is more visible during the day. But their fit for Spyders is not dynamic (moving with the turn). Slingmods TricLED Dynamic Driving Light Kit for the Can-Am Spyder F3 Models (2019+) & RT Models (2020+) are dynamic. They are 2.2" and my Clearwaters are 2". I hope to use the yellow cups on the Spyder. Does anyone have these or what are other recommendation.

You can also take a look on E Bay. I found a set of 3-inch PIAAs for under $200.00 which are quite revealing in the PM hours. Also, PIAA is a very reliable Manufacturer. Just a thought. :2thumbs:

What year is your Spyder?

What is the model?

I have the Lamonster fog lights and LED headlights - massive improvement. Installation of the fog lights was simple.

I will have to respectfully disagree with some of the above comments regarding color temp.

Arguably, the best visibility would be during the day in the bright midday sun. Logic would then tell me that if I wanted this level of clarity and visibility, I would want a color temp and intensity to match. This is where 5500-6500K will be the most beneficial for night viewing, as it will more closely mimic daylight.

However, in some conditions (fog etc.) using 5500-6500K can result in significant glare and actually reduce visibility. In these situations, a lower color temp (3000K) would be a better solution.

The last layer to this is Beam Patterns and Light Aiming. This is a sliding target, and so everyone's experience will vary based on these factors. Look for a flat beam pattern that can provide a flat/sharp cutoff that will improve the ability to aim the lights. Always aim the lights properly. A good starting point would be the height and distance used by the OEM manual for the Can-am headlights. There is usually a distance and height requirement to properly aim the lights and doing so will maximize visibility and prevent blinding other riders. Google can be your friend. :D

I went through all this on my Z900 and found a set of small LED driving lights that have both 5500K and 3000K LEDs in one housing. The 3000K is also set to aim lower than the 5000K LEDs, so I only need to set the lamps on the white color to not blind drivers. The 5500K LED's greatly improve visibility and I can switch to "fog" light mode at the touch of a button that are automatically aimed lower and better for more adverse riding conditions.

I have the Slingmods version on my 2019 RTL. Although they advertised it for the 2019 they had to make a special bracket so I could make it work. Very bright and I love the dynamic feature. Hooked mine up thru a relay so when I turn on the hi beams they come on. I do a lot of back roads and the Natchez Trace after dark, so every bit of lighting helps. Not only does it improve the distance but the spillover onto the sides of the road is great for foraging critters.
The ones from Lamonster appear to be the same light, different mounting method and easier installation.

Broderp, do you remember the brand of those driving lights you put on your Kawasaki?
