• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New car rebate?

Questions

New member
So, I've been flirting with the idea of getting a bike for a long time. A friend turned me onto the Spyder and I must say LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!! So, as I look around and do my due dilagence I wanted to know if the Spyder qualifies for the Gov't New car rebate program???

I believe anything 30mpg or higher qualifies. I'm not 100% sure but am fairly certain that the :spyder: will qualify with the new enviromental standards that have been set forth.

I've been hearing different things. It would be nice if they would produce a definitive list of how and what can be done.

It's a shame that it's our money. They are just giving some of it back to some of us. But I guess as long as we're happy with that they will keep doing it.

I heard a report today stating that as long as the new vehicle got better fuel mileage than the one that was traded in you would receive the $4K gas guzzler rebate.

Don't know for sure about the Spyder, but from what I've heard and read I think not. I would think it would be hard to get a motorcycle dealer to take a car in trade anyway. I know that if the new car gets 4 mpg more you are eligable for $3500, if it gets 10 mpg more you are eligable for $4500. the car you trade in must be a 84 or newer and get less than 18mpg, that would rule out most any motorcycle, and the trade in must be destroyed. and you get on top of your $3500 or $4500, what the scrap value of your trade in is worth. You get no trade in value for your old car. So in order for this to be worth you wild, Your trade in value for your old car would have to be less than $4500.

The premise behind the program is to trade in a qualifying CAR on the purchase of a qualifying CAR.

What part of "CAR" is it you do not understand?

See http://www.cars.gov/

You're right. Just like all other Government administered programs, the details of this one are crystal clear and universally understood. What were we thinking? :dontknow:

Harley web page

ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE
SAVES YOU MONEY!
The passage by Congress of the 2009 Economic Stimulus Package includes a Federal Tax deduction on state, local and excise taxes you pay on new on-road motorcycles. The tax deductability applies to new motorcycles purchased between
Feb. 17, 2009 and Dec. 31, 2009.

This was taken from the web page of a local Harley Dealer it is NOT the car program but a different program aimed at boosting the economy with motorcycle sales. No exact program or law number was posted but your dealer should be able to find out about it for you.

PS welcome

Actually ALL of the references to this program state VEHICLE, not car... but in the detailed explanation of eligibility, the purchase of automobiles and "type 1 thru type 3 trucks" are mentioned explicitly, no mention of motorcycles.

Funny this was brought up my daughter wanted to do this program but found out her 2003 malibu gets 21 mpgs and does not qualify so we will go looking for deals this weekend she likes the jetta but we can find something that gets better fuel mileage.
