There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Newbie to Spyders - I've just bought a 2012 RS Roadster! Have I done the right thing?!

Hi and thank you for allowing me to join. I live in Scotland, had few other trikes, Boom, Rewaco, Ryker, and now I've just bought a Spyder RS 2012 Roadster. I don't know if I've done the right thing as I'm only 5'2 tall. After my first ride, my wrists and neck are killing me, and I ridden not even a mile. I'm finding cornering difficult because I'm trying to hold myself up from the bars, maybe I should just resell it?!

It sounds you have to get the bars and foot pegs in a different position for your body! And maybe relax your grip a little! And then it's new to you, but has there been any aftermarket stuff done to the bike, like sway bar, tires, shocks, front end alignment? All of those will make the ride and handling better so you can relax a little! I can still remember my first ride home with my 2012 RTL,, I thought what the hell did I buy here!! Get back to us with a little more info on how the bikes been set up, so we can maybe get your comfort level a little better! ;)

Hi. Right now, it feels like I'm head down, rear up, lol, like most of my weight is on my wrists. I've ordered bar risers to maybe help get me sitting up a bit better, as far as I can see there are no after market parts on my Spyder, it's completely untouched. I'm even sliding on the seat in corners! 😅

At some point you will want to be sure that your power steering (DPS) is working properly. The Spyder is a bear to turn if it is not.

Hi thanks for the advice, I think the main problem is my sitting position. Being small, I feel as if I'm sitting on a race bike with the bars further away, so I'm over reaching and leaning my weight down on the bars, so the slightest turn feels awkward and clumsy. Also, I've only been out on it twice, the second time my hands started going numb. I'm hoping bar risers will help.

Bar risers will help. When we got our Spyder, my back hated me, risers fixed that. I also think the sitting position is a lot different to any 2 wheels I have owned. Persevere, you will love the machine.

Thanks @weeneil, I'm hoping the risers help when actually fitted. For now, some short rides and figures of eight in the carpark will do for my next few times out, until I get the feel of it and she stops wanting to throw me off! 😅 Thanks for the reply and help. 👍

Give yourself time to get used to the spyder. It took me a while to get used to not feeling for the clutch and Not counter-steering. So what I suggest is counter pushing with your legs. Let you legs keep you vertical. Left hand turn push (counter!) with the Right leg! After a bit of time this will come natural. Raising your bars will be of great help. My first F3 limited had "short reach" bars (an oxymoron because they reach further back than normal handle bars!) which was an unexpected blessing which I truly didn't appreciate until I purchased an RT limited with regular reach bars. First thing I ordered was the blocks to raise the bars and extend them closer to me. This is pretty easy to do. I just suggest having an extra set of hands for a few minutes when reseting the bar in place. And there is enough extra wire under the tupperware to accomodate the bar being further from the bike. And another person suggested going around a highway cloverleaf for a bit of time to also help one get used to the steering on a Spyder. The more time you spend on the spyder the more you will have fun with it. Just give yourself some time. Go over to Coach Bob 3 on youtube and watch some of his spyder videos. Here is one on steering the spyders:
now go out and have some fun!
