Odd rattle noise coming from inside the muffler when running

Over the last few months I have noticed an noise coming from my stock muffler. It sounds like muffled rattle and is there all the time. I cannot hear it at the engine end, only coming out of the two exhaust tubes so I checked the muffler connections both at the mount and the connection to the pipe and they are tight and no exhaust appears to be getting based the connection. I am guessing either a blown cat or a loose muffler baffle so I am opening this question to the masses.. any one had a similar issue? It is off warranty but I have best extended but I doubt it would cover the muffler, maybe the cat.

I like the look of the chrome on the stock muffler and that it is realtively quite so does anyone have a good used one they want to sell just incase?

Thanks for any help

I do have one from a 2012 RT-Limited that is sitting around gathering dust that I might consider selling to someone who will give it a good home.

Do you think maybe someone dropped something down your pipe as a joke or maybe an act of vandalism?

Could have varmint have crawled up in there and been gassed?
That used to happen with snowmobiles all of the time... :gaah:

There's only three bolts holding that boat anchor on the bike; two hook it up to the cat, and the third one ties it in place behind the right saddlebag...
Even I was able to remove and install it...
Pull it off, and give it a real good shaking out!

No, I checked the shield and nose cover, both are tight and the rattle/huffing sound is coming from inside as it goes away when I put a rag over the tail pipes while it is running. I thought of the same thing about removing the muffler, I will do so and see if I can hear any rattling. Thanks

I have an aftermarket muffler on mine, so I went to the shop took the original off the shelf, no rattle, mine is not for sale, good luck

I had the same noise a couple of years ago on my 2010 RTS-se. It so happened that I was at Spyderfest. One of the BRP reps. listened to it and determined that it was a loose baffle. He told me to have my dealer call BRP parts and order the muffler per his authorization. That solved the problem, My bike was still in warranty. The mechanic that installed it, saw the parts invoice and told me that it was quite pricey.
