Oil Changed Idea - Redux

Well I pulled my previous thread before my idea sharing put a thought into someone's head that would damage their Spyder. I sit here nights and mornings reading ideas in posts from others who often times write about cost saving ideas and DIY techniques. (Yes, I'm smart enough to determine what works for me and assess the risks of following the tips offered on this forum.) Some of those posts are about owners changing thier own oil...and yes, dealer gouging. These posts in mind and the guys standing outside their open garage doors showing empty bays gave me an idea that I checked out and thought was worth sharing. Well, obviously not.

For those who brought good points to the table, thank you. Some, however, seemed to be piling on. It might be a while before I start another thread.

When starting or replying to a thread there is always the risk of getting over the top responses. Keep in mind the vast majority of folks out there in Spyderlovers Land do appreciate all ideas good, great or pretty unusual to say the least. After a while a thick skin is a requirement but I have to say the folks here for the most part are pretty understanding with a few really weird types who may think they are funny but maybe not so much. What I am saying is don't stay away join in, and participate.

Ideas, such as the one you initially submitted, about saving dollars on maintenance are always welcomed. If an idea ends up working for you it is good to share. There will always be replies to any DIY idea posted, and normally people on this forum are quick to ring the alarm bells to new owners on what should and should not be done. This is a good thing because their experiences can save you/us a great deal of grief. I am sure that their cautionary responses were meant not to shoot down your idea, but merely to educate you/us about some of the things to be careful about when we service our Spyders.
I do hope that you will continue to post any idea that you believe may help a fellow Spyder rider. The vast majority of my DIY mods are as a direct result of people on this forum thinking outside of the box and sharing their experiences. (Both good and bad)

Dare I say, Teddy & I wouldn't be able to afford the upkeep & maintenance on his Spyder So Teddy & I appreciate all the info we get from this great site, please, keep it coming :bowdown:

In the middle ages armor was 'verified' by firing a round at it. The round left a dent but gave the wearer confidence that it would actually protect him.

It's kind of like that with ideas. An idea is posted and everyone gets the chance to take a shot at it. Same thing happens to my ideas.

These shots may leave dents in the idea but if they don't penetrate then the idea is a good one. It is part of the testing process. Both the presenter and the tester are looking for the same thing, a better mouse trap.

I didn't see all of the posts but on the chance that my post was offensive I apologize. Shots fired should always be intended for the idea, not the poster.

A single idea rarely works for everyone. Some ideas work only for a very few. Don't let it get to you. Like the craftsman who's armor was pierced, come back and try again. Success is always worth the effort. :thumbup:

One of the things that makes the site great are the varying opinions that others post. With as many readers as the site has, almost anything said is going to have several opinions registered, some in agreement, and some not.

If everyone agreed on everything, this would be a very vanilla (or choclate--for those of a different opinion) world.

Please continue to submit your ideas and posts.
