Back in the dark days when I used to have to work for a living, I did so at a large university in my area. You already know how students are with cell phones and the students there were no exception.

It never failed, EVERY semester at least two students were hit by cars on campus because they were looking at their damned phones while walking out from between parked cars into the street. Guess their mama didn't teach em to look both ways before walking out into the street.

Another thing about some students. Seems that their mama didn't teach em how to dress themselves either. I always marveled at the idiots with only sweatpants and light sweatshirts on while the world is covered in snow and ice and the wind chills down below zero. Gloves? Who needs em! And it's always the guys who can't dress themselves. The women did much better.

School or not the long sleeve & shorts group are everywhere, smartphones seem optional but just bout guaranteed smoking/huffing on something where allowed. Is lil more comical whenever.

Agreed! In my dark days of working, I managed a large bank branch that was 2 blocks away from the University of Washington campus. Way too many idiot stories to list. At the beginning of each semester, I had a topic about public safety in one of my staff meetings. Reminded my staff that there would be a large police presence in the area "teaching" new students how to properly cross streets and use cross walks.

Dark days for me were when I could see the light at the end of the tunnel (retirement). Had a long and happy career but towards the end, (early 2000s), the industry changed a lot. Over the 35 years that I was in the financial services industry there were many changes and adjustments, which is normal for any company. But the last couple years for me were difficult (dark). I wasn't happy with the way the industry was evolving. I became a dinosaur and retired January, 2005. Just 3 years before the big banking crisis of 2008.

Yeah, that is me, I work food and retail. That is what all them cows out in the field are... food and retail.
I go on lavish vacations, by working where I want to go on vacation at.
I buy anything I want too, but I am real careful about what I want.
Lucky for me, the older I get, the less I really want.

Working with the public in ANY capacity will show you just how stupid people can be. I was fortunate enough in my 30 years working in higher education that I never had to work directly with the general student population. I worked with grad students and professors in a research setting. Not many shenanigans or BS to deal with because these were all serious students and to reach the level they were already at meant that they had something on the ball.

I used Dark Days as a metaphor. I really shouldn't refer to my workdays as dark days since I really loved my job. The only reason that I retired was because, with my pension maxed out, I could retire and make the same money that I was making while working. A no brainer.

Depends on what exactly those changes entail. I didn't mind changing from having to be in my office at 9am to not having to be there at all. I didn't mind not having to drive to work when the roads are a mess and driving is hazardous.

I do miss some aspects of my job though. Not the least of which is in the Spring, when the weather starts warming up and the coeds start to wear more revealing clothing...

Ahh... 37 years of teaching industrial studies, mostly high school but some middle too. Mostly worked with some good folks (students and teaching staff) but the worst was the administration.

The only problem I had when I retired from Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan and went to work for myself is my new boss was a worse than the old one and never cut me any slack.
