• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rear Brake Locks When Parking Brake Switch is Set, But Won't Unlock.

I was out for a great ryde today with 12 Spyders :ohyea:. When we finished the ryde, I stopped the engine to gas my Spyder. I got an engine overheat and limp home when I restarted it. :yikes: I let it cool some and the code went away. At the same time I got the overheat code, the rear brake would not unlock. A bunch of great folks from the ryde put their heads together and one discovered that if he put pressure on the lever the brake cable connects to on the rear wheel, it would release the brake. If I use the Parking Brake Switch, it locks again, but will not release unless I put pressure on the lever the brake cable connects to. I was able to ryde home (213 mile ryde today . . . great time) but the Parking Brake Switch still does not release the rear brake. Has anyone experienced this? Ideas?

Look for debris or brake dust build-up on the cable where it enters the sheath at each end, or the vinyl cable cover pulling all the way out of the sheath and hanging up. Proper adjustment of the parking brake and cleaning and lubricating the cable should take care of it unless there is a problem with the parking brake drums/springs. Now that you know the trick, I'd have the dealer take care of it on a 2013.

Thanks . . . I plan to contact the dealer Tuesday to schedule an appointment . . . I also have the "4 without a painted dot" heim joints, so need to get it in for that. I'd planned to wait until the recall comes through and have everything done at once, but have concerns about anything related to brakes, after hearing of the recall.
Yes, I had this happen please see your dealer about this problem.
SpyderAnn01, how close to your fire did this occur . . . do you think the incidents were related, somehow?

A parking brake problem is not the same as a braking system problem. The only thing they have in common is using the same rear pad and rotor.

Unless extreme heat, cooking something at the front end of the cable, is causing the binding. I thought asking SpyderAnn01 how close the events were was worth asking.

I understand your reason for asking now. Yes, excess heat could be affecting these systems (in a different way since the parking brake is not hydraulic)...not that the heating problems are necessarily related to Ann's fire. We will never know the answer there.
