• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. RT 622 spare tire mount

Has anyone mounted a spare tire on the outside of their RT 622 trailer?
I was thinking on the side of the tong or the back of the trailer

I think it would be in the way if mounted to the back. The tong would be the best, but will add to much weight as you are only to have 25# max at the ball.

Agree..!!

the tongue would be the best on the body would take some tricky bracing. Flat under the tongue....

Trailer tongue weight at the hitch coupling should be no more than 40 lbs. You can achieve this by moving things around in the trailer. Try laying the spare flat on the tongue, and then check the tongue weight. I suspect that that will get you real close to the max.

The 40 # rating is based on 10% of overall trailer weight to keep the trailer towing straight with out wagging the tail. Too much can affect the front steering so the rule of thumb is 10% max but the Spyder can handle more than this on the hitch all though I would not go over board. The perfect way to balance a trailer is to weigh the tongue after loading. Redistribute to achieve about 10% If you mount the tie on the tongue then add the tire weight to the total.. ie 25# tire + 40 = 65 (in theory if full loaded). I am not sure how you would mount the tire on the tongue though, maybe weld a vertical stand pipe? The shape of the tongue makes a full size tire difficult to mount otherwise.

I saw where one person mounted a luggage rack on the lid, this would be a great option but will it will be hard to open the lid unless you take the tire off. It will like stand vertically on the front lid but if slams shut it would damage the lid for sure.

Personally, I never spend much time on weight distribution, I keep the heavy stuff over or in front of the wheels and it always tows like a dream.

I know reggy took his 622 tong and made it longer and works great. E- mail him should give you how he did it. Looks great to.
