• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT LIMITED SEAT REMOVAL

Does anyone have good instruction to remove the seat and possible pictures. I ordered a Utopia back rest and Jonn an Bike Solutions LLC is going to install.
Thanks

I have replaced seats and installed Corbin's twice. The seat removal is basicaly--disconnect the shock absorber at the seat, take out the screws from the hinge at the back, and unplug the passenger sensor.

Since you are not replacing the seat, just reverse the process after installing the Utopia.

I can't find my Corbin seat instructions since that is to long in the past.

PS. make sure to hang on to all screws and nuts carefully. Lose one and it goes into the bike--never to be seen again. I like to spread a light colored towel or something like that, under the working area, to catch anything that I may drop.

Thanks AKSPYDERMAN for the quick response. I have also asked John about a Wide Seat like he does for the goldwind. No response yet until after WingDing.

How do you like the Corbin Seat, is it worth the money.
Thanks

Two suggestions, if i may.......

Put duct tape or something else over the holes in the back under the seat to prevent losing the nuts and bolts into the black hole BEFORE disassembly.---DAMHIKT :D

Before reassembly, use some chewing gum or other goo to put the nuts back in place so they stay there while you mount the seat.

Also, use some thick grease on the spacers when you put them back into the seat assembly so they also stay inplace while you mount the seat.

Mount the seat loosely. Close the seat and make sure it locks inplace and THEN tighten up on thebolts in the back.

Access the two hinge screws from top side of the seat while the seat is down with a 10mm socket. Make sure to stuff some paper towels into the open slots under and back of the seat so you won't lose the nuts. Don't unscrew the seat gas shock. Just use a small flat blade screw driver to lift the metal clip then pull loose. Pull the seat forward and be careful not to lose the two metal cylinders in the seat hinge. When replacing use something to hold the two nuts in place to keep them from sliding out of the slot.

RE: Corbin seat--I have had them on two of my :spyder2:.s Have over 35,000 Corbin seat miles. IMHO--I like the Corbin seat--they are firm--so not everyone's cup of tea. They are pricey--but worth it. I have a driver backrest on mine--for added back support.

Seat removal

Ref the details re Seat removal AKSPYDERMAN Stated
-disconnect the shock absorber at the seat

Is this disconnected from under the seat (Top of cable) or where the shock absorber cable goes through the panel near the battery
How is it connected - Screws or nuts and bolts or just a push fit
normal electrical connector etc

Can't quite see due to angle of seat (when trying to look under at both
top and bottom of the cable run)

Any Information/Pictures helpful

Thanks

The RT seat has a gas shock that holds the seat up when refueling. This shock is located directly under the seat. At the top end use a small flat blade screw driver to release the clip and pull loose. Do not remove any screws.

Seat

Also, the ABS passenger sensor on the seat is held on by 3 screws ( 30 torx ) remove the sensor from the seat.

Do you have to remove the sensor to install the backrest support? Or can you just unplug the connector? I had Cowtown install my Utopia backrest at Spyderfest so I didn't get to see what was involved.

When I did my backrest, I didn't know if it unplugged and using a power screw driver it was just easier for me to unscrew the sensor.

Ref my ealier post

Very sorry for my mistake

I was after information ref the Sensor under the seat and confused this with the shock absorber

It is with reference to the Cable which connects the seat to the bodywork
Which I understand to be the Passenger ABS sensor ( I Think ?)

The passenger sensor connects to the seat pan with two screws. It plugs in to the Spyder wiring harness via a connector that can usually be accessed by pulling the wire up through the hole in the body panel. If that isn't possible, the panel need to be removed.

IS THE CLIP ON THE RIGHT SIDE OR LEFT SIDE.? MY SPYDER LOOKS LIKE WASHERS

Look at the end of the gas shock. There is a silver metal clip on the opposite side of socket. Take a small flat blade screwdriver and push under the back side of the clip. While the clip is lifted pull the end of the shock from the ball mount. This way you do not need to remove any hardware.

seat

Seat removed, I did remove hardware at top of gas shock, just as easy. It came off withno problem. The 2 10mm nuts behind the passenger seat was a little harder and time consuming for me but came off. Removed the sensor as the last step,, 2 screws. I will try the reverse process when putting back together
