Last week I asked a question on
http://xpslubricants.com/
My Question:
In my owners manual it recommends the blended XPS motor oil or a 5W40 motorcycle oil blended or synthetic. Why is the Xps synthetic not recommended in the manual. Yet on the XPS Lubricants web site it appears to be recommended. Please explain the discrepancy?
The answer I received:
Hi Ron,
Thanks for the question – the answer is a bit complicated. The XPS full synthetic is neither recommended nor unrecommended. The full synthetic is a better oil formulation than the XPS blend; it has better base stock lubrication and the same additive package and friction profile as the 5W-40 blend, with the benefit of better cold start engine protection.
The blend is recommended for your machine as the “official” recommended oil because that was the formulation used during the engineering validation of your Spyder. BRP expects to have validation completed on XPS full synthetic shortly. As you indicated with the discrepancy, it does not make sense to recommend untested, aftermarket full synthetic formulations but not our own XPS brand in the product manual. We expect this discrepancy to be remedied in the near future.
