There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Seemed like an unbiased approach to an often asked question about which oil to use. Conventional, Blended or Synthetic. Hope it helps someone.

What? Was it getting too quiet around here for you?

Tom

You may be right!~

Oil opinions always interest me. I came across this video and it seemed innocent enough.

I guess it's a combination of chuckling about how seriously some take the oil question, and wanting to get reasonable information circulating. The debate will never go away. But it is nice to have some fun with it when you can.

 Viscosity modifiers?
I just want to know which one will make my popcorn taste better... :dontknow:

They didn't really tell us much. At the end I heard, "Refer to your owners manual" to keep the lawyers happy and "Dispose of properly" to keep the environmentalists happy. Other than that it was a minute and a half of putting the Valvoline name up front.

OIL

I'll stick with Amsoil pure synthetic. It has always performed well for me and I am not concerned about cost.

OIL

It's Amsoil for me, I used It In my Gold Wings for thirty years with good results, I know It will do the same for my :f_spider::thumbup:

Yes, I'm sure they may have noticed an uptick in their revenue flow from Valvoline with that little ditty. But what interested me in the whole thing is that the only ding they had for full synthetic oil was that 'It cost more!'.

Well, my Spyder cost me more than any other 'Motorcycle' I've ever owned. Does that mean I should have gotten something less expensive? What kind of logic is that? And isn't it reasonable that a better product might cost more? Of course you always have the 'Needed' factor. No use spending more if it isn't doing you any good. I get that.

But the blended thing is a bit misleading. Most blended oils have only 10% full synthetic. The additional price per quart is usually much higher than a 10% synthetic added would warrant.

So, the debate goes on. I suppose I really need to quit :bdh:

Use coconut oil for your popcorn. I use expeller-pressed from TropicalTraditions.com.
Its good stuff.

That was fun..!!

Just enough to remain standing in the same spot....blended it is for me...

I'm glad to see that everyone is having some fun with this one. This has to be one of the friendliest 'Oil' threads we've had in awhile!

Get the sun tan lotion and the pool lounger ready to go folks! It won't be long now!

To add some life to the discussion.

Last week I asked a question on http://xpslubricants.com/

My Question:
In my owners manual it recommends the blended XPS motor oil or a 5W40 motorcycle oil blended or synthetic. Why is the Xps synthetic not recommended in the manual. Yet on the XPS Lubricants web site it appears to be recommended. Please explain the discrepancy?

The answer I received:
Hi Ron,

Thanks for the question – the answer is a bit complicated. The XPS full synthetic is neither recommended nor unrecommended. The full synthetic is a better oil formulation than the XPS blend; it has better base stock lubrication and the same additive package and friction profile as the 5W-40 blend, with the benefit of better cold start engine protection.

The blend is recommended for your machine as the “official” recommended oil because that was the formulation used during the engineering validation of your Spyder. BRP expects to have validation completed on XPS full synthetic shortly. As you indicated with the discrepancy, it does not make sense to recommend untested, aftermarket full synthetic formulations but not our own XPS brand in the product manual. We expect this discrepancy to be remedied in the near future.

Makes sense. Bottom line is, they know it is better, they know it will work better, but they can't say so until they try it. That's why they have attorneys. To tell them what they can say and when they can say it. A necessity in today's world.
