• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Shifter woes have me stumped... Won't shift up - again! What's my next step?

New to me 2010 RT, 20k mi, pretty bike... a couple of days ago it would not shift up, so I took the left side switch apart, cleaned it up, took the wife on a two hour ride, during which it shifted perfectly, parked it, and today, it won't shift out of first... again! What am I missing?

It will shift into Neutral, and back to First, that's it... I've searched forums, overwhelming info... what's my next step? Thanks

Does the shifter feel “funny”? The older models are known for the springs to get messed up and the shifter won’t return to center for the next shift. Next time it won’t shift up, try re-centering the shifter. If it shifts, then you'll know.
You can take it apart and replace the springs. There are a few threads on here already regarding this issue. The springs are on Amazon. Stainless steel compression springs 0.5mm x 4mm x 15mm

99% of the time, shifting problems in the SE5 are due to one of two things.

1 - Low oil level in the tank. Shifting is performed by hydraulic oil pressure from the pump in the HCM. Low oil level affects the pumps ability to build up sufficient pressure. Maintain oil level in accordance with your Operators Manual.

2 - The splines in the shift shaft arm are beginning to strip out. This is an inherent design/material problem that is applicable to every SE5. Look at the left side of the engine to see the shift rod, the arm, and the shift shaft. To inspect, remove the bolt connecting the rod to the arm and see how much slop there is. The attached pic shows what you are looking for.

Otherwise, as mentioned above, it's wimpy springs.

Hopefully, it's just oil level for you. Yes, there's a ton of info already posted on the forum on both of these issues.

YOU GUYS!... Low oil, slightly, added 1/4 qt, all is well... time for oil change anyway! After Evo Harleys, multiple Hondas, this is my first time on such an electronic, automatic everything bike, I have stuff to learn... Thanks again, Mick.
