While I agree and use the mount, to answer your question, to split the dash safety there is a bit more to it. you need to remove the following:
- remove the mirrors (they pop off)
- remove the wind deflector just below the mirrors (two black screws)
- remove the two access panels on either side of the frunk when open (they also pop off, start at the wheel well and pop the pins out of the grommets, then pull the bottom out on the drives side and final unhook the panel at the top.
- remove the pop off panels on either side
- Remove the two upper side panels (do not remove the screws that you see on the outside, these are for the locator pins that snap into the oval rubber grommets under neigth, when the 4 black screws are removed just wiggle the panel and it will pop off.
- Remove the head light bezel (4 screws)
- remove the two chrome plastic windshield screw covers
- remove the windshield (4 black screws)
- remove the windshield bracket (3 clips or stainless screws depending on the year of the bike)
- remove two upper wind deflectors (2 black screws)
- remove three bolts along the bottom of the dash panel
- remove the 2 stainless bolts in the middle of the panel
- push the panel half forward and then work it over the windshield mounting bracket support arms
While the list is long, the actual time to do this is less than 20 minutes for me by myself. If this is the first time then take it slower and make sure to keep the screws organized, I use a tray with 18 bins but some use baggies or the likes. You cannot break anything, just follow the steps above.
