• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

THIS IS DISGUSTING!!

As I am getting ready to take the spYder to Oswego County Airport to escort the remains of a soldier up to Oswego NY with other PGR members, I get an e-mail from my brother out in Denver with the following.

So New York is so poor that they can't have a bugler play taps at a military funeral....They're paid so much they're breaking the state....what a crock. Didn't know if you heard of this, or not.
[h=1]No More 'Taps' in New York State[/h]Week of September 10, 2012
Stars and Stripes reports that because of budget cuts, New York State as of Oct. 1 will no longer hire musicians to play "Taps" on trumpets or bugles at the more than 300 military funerals per month staffed by New York's Military Forces Honor Guard units. Federal funding pays for a three-member funeral detail to attend military funerals: two active-duty National Guard troops and a bugler. The funding cuts only apply to the bugler. To attempt to find a live bugler for funerals, visit the Bugles Across America website

What a shame that they have to cut funds for this, and deem other items more important. I pray that these musicians will step up, and volunteer their time. I wish I could play the trumpet.

This is awful! :( However, from an experience many years ago attending a relative's funeral, the very small local VFW used the musical talents of a local high school band member to play TAPS. It was just as moving and the kid was glad to do community service.

BS

My father passed three years ago. A WWll veteran with five battle stars, a purple heart, and enough combat medals to get a five dollar drink for six bucks in any bar. The funeral director told me taps would be played but, it would be a recording "electronic bugle". That wasn't about to happen so I hired a real bugler to perform taps.

Do politicians care? Yea, they care.

When it's politically expedient.

I'm sorry about the loss of your dad, Jerbear. :( You did good hiring that bugler.

Someone votes for them fools.

As an side note, I think Taps are the saddest notes that can come out of a bugle. [And the ultimate respect]
Heard it quite a few times in my life, And i cry every time.

Well since I live in the middle of this :cus: mess; all I can say is that it's a :cus: shame that the :cus: in Albany keep filling their :cus: pockets with our :cus: money! :gaah: important :cus: like this gets kicked to the :cus: curb so that the lazy :cus: can still get their :cus: welfare checks!! :gaah:
:gaah::gaah:
Wow! That felt good!

Contrast

Members of Congress are quick to say they support the troops and veterans, but the number of elected officials who have served has plummeted to its lowest point since World War II.

Only 20% of the 535 members of the new Congress have served in the military.

25 from the Senate and 90 from the House of Representatives.

In 1975 over 70% of those elected had served in the armed forces

Don't take everything you read

Well you got my blood pressure up so I did some research. NY will continue to play taps at Vets funerals as before. It seems the money cut for funding the bugler was not state money but money from the Feds. It appears as the present President wishes to be re-elected Washington decided it would not be to smart to aggravate millions of veterans and their families. The real kicker is that our representives,we sent to Washington, had to have knowledge of the proposed cuts but failed to publicize the fact.

I am glad to read this,

but I thought everything on the internet was true?

They could stop paying the printer all that extra money to print vehicle registration renewal instructions in English on the front....and SPANISH on the back!!!! There'd be plenty of money for the bugler then! :yikes:

Was it true

The story was initially true. NY Senator Schumer reported on September 5 the money had been allocated by the Feds and Taps would be continued to be played by a person at Military Funerals. Unfortunately after most people heard the first story they were too excited to check it out. There are rumor mills and different political groups on the web that are carrying the story now as though it is a fact. The Dept. of Justice taught me to check all facts before making a decision.
