• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. What to take?

It's time to start thinking about what to take for the trip to Spyderfest.
For most it is not an inconsequential journey.

For a lot of lucky folks besides clothing, it means a phone and a credit card.
Oh to be so lucky.

Oh not be in the grips of what my wife calls Tool Separation Anxiety.
TSA for short.

Me and people like me have some kind of personality disorder that never quite let go of the Boy Scout motto of "Be Prepared".
For the record, Cub Scouts was as far as I got, but somehow I became imprinted at an early age.

Here's how it goes for virtually any tool I have.
And I have a lot of them.
I tell myself that my 36mm socket with adapter probably won't be necessary.
I then reason that if it is needed I probably won't have the parts anyway so why take it?
I look around to make sure the other me isn't looking.
It gets stuffed in my toolbag.
You get the idea.

Taken to the limit it means that my spyder would be towing a 30 foot trailer complete with lift, winch and a sat phone just in case cell service quit working.

It's like I have this very small slice of whatever the hardcore preppers have except mine only applies to Spyder trips.

Lest you think this is some kind of commentary on the reliability of Spyders, it isn't.
I've never actually needed anything I've ever packed.

So back to planning.
Do you think the 35 foot tow chain will be enough or should I throw the 50 footer in too?

Fuses, tools, duct tape, zip ties, gloves and rags, band aids. Gear to include rain wear, gloves, helmet. Long and short sleeve shirts. Enough changes to last the trip. Or do laundry. Tom :spyder:

I'm the lucky one who gets to tow the trailer and there usually isn't any room in it for my stuff. The alignment tools could be as little as the briefcase with the lasers, the laptop computer and a small tool box but we carry a giant tool box, a smaller tool box a jack and a bunch of other stuff. I have been known to take pictures as I'm loading it so that I will be able to repack it (fit everything back in) at the end of the event.

Roger, if you need a 36mm socket come see me, I'll have one.

When the trailer follows me it carries my tool bag as seen below.

Toe chains....

Go for the 50 footer that way you can double it up and tow two in case you find a friend along the way....:roflblack:

The 50 foot nylon strap would be plenty strong enough for any job... and it'd be a WHOLE lot lighter! That'll allow you to carry even MORE tools! :D
I just "tooled" mine up: Vice Grips, extra 10,12,,13, and 15 mm wrenches, Some Torx head stuff, and electrical tape.
...And I'm hoping to not need any of it!

Just wanted to thank you and Joe for the amazing job you did on our 2015 RTS at spyders on the bayou. It was like riding a new bike.

The most important tool is missing. The Hammer. You can fix anything with a Hammer and Duct tape. Don't see any Duct Tape in there either. :joke:

Spidercodes, living in Aus like I do, I'm not going to be making it to (this years) Spyderfest, but I do sympathise with you on this!

Whenever we head off anywhere, be it on the Spyder, in the 4WD, or just down to town (it's a couple of hours trip) I always check to make sure I've got all the necessary gear..... And once I get out there, I'm the bloke that everyone comes to when things go wrong, knowing that I'll have the right tools & the weird sized fuse, the gear to fix a puncture, a spare light globe, or even that odd spare bearing or water pump, fuel pump, alternator diodes.... You get the picture.

So I can really sympathise with your dilemma, but you can trust that even if you don't have the 36mm socket, there IS gonna someone else there who DOES have one - just look for the 30 foot trailer!

I've got it all

Cause people who really know about such things keep making that list longer. Yep started with just me and Spyder. Now up to trailer and Spyder and less and less of me stuff. So I've got it all and other than the TP I have not a clue how to use!!! But just ask and you can save the day!!!:bowdown:

Jack

Got a whole roll of Duct Tape under the roll of masking tape. There is a small Hammer in there somewhere.

As far as tools to carry the main thing is try to only carry tools to repair what you are comfortable doing yourself, that should keep the list small enough.nojoke Have a list of dealers info along your route & destination for any major on the road repair. & the roadside assistance number & info. Have the spyder checked out & ready to travel before any overnight trip, just for extra precaution & comfort. :lecturef_smilie::clap:

Be careful not to overload your Spyder. Youll need lots of space to haul all the stuff you buy at Spyderfest.:D
