• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What's the best way to get a spare key? Any suggestions?

That would be the way to go unless you get flashed to remove the "keyed" requirement. Doing so has some risks but also allow you to use non-keyed key to start your Spyder. I recently had mine done.

2013 & prior keys can be cloned, if that helps. 2014 & up, getting a new key means going to the dealer & a BUDS system to get them added to the Spyder. You can get Chipless blanks tho - Ilico X270

Spyders have been made from 2007 -> present day with quite a few variations & models. Help us to help you... tell us what year & model you have.

I for one would go to the dealer and have them shut down the DESS, then you can go to any locksmith or hardware store and have one cut! You can also get blanks with the programable chip and have your old key cloned by a locksmith, no matter what year it is. Go see a locksmith they call help you!!

A locksmith can not program a replacement key for a 2014(?) or new Spyder RT. My in-laws bought a 2014, I picked the spare key from the dealer, took it to a locksmith to be cut, and back to dealer to program it to the remaining existing key. Loose both keys and the DESS module has to be replaced. The locksmith put the Spyder key in their machine and said "nope, we can not clone this key"!

I would try a different shop. I did a key for a 2012 and had to try three different shops before I found the right one!

Is it best to just pay the price and buy spare key from a dealer. Any suggestions??
We REALLY need to know what year your Spyder is in order to be able to properly help any more than what's already been posted. 😏

Sorry, but as others have mentioned, 2013 & earlier keys can be cloned, altho I doubt you'll find any dealer who would know how to do anything else with them now anyway, IF they'd even touch a Spyder more than 10 years old; but the keys for Spyders from 2014 on CANNOT be cloned but a dealer should be able to add it to your Spyder once you get it cut.

So, what year & model is your Spyder?? It might pay to add it to your Signature line, as requested here:

Go to page 7 of that thread in order to find out how to do this on the current platform - the earlier methods refer to the old platform that we migrated from early this year. ;)
