• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Will it fit?

Will a Spyder fit in the back of a full size Pickup?

Based on the specs on the web site and the putting a tape measure on my Dodge, it will if you back it in, but it is real close.
Anyone done this?

Cool, so if I decide to make a run to get one I don't have to drag the car hauler trailer.
Both Bikes are sold and delivered so now I just need to find the right Spyder for me.

Why not just rent an inexpensive utility trailer? To me, it would be much less of a P.I.T.A. than loading it on the pickup. :dontknow:

Or, have someone go with you, then just drive the Spyder home....

Ryding the Spyder home was the option I chose when I bought mine. My wife had to drive the car back home and followed me. :)

I am just looking at options. I have a trailer (couple of them) but if I find the perfect deal 1000 miles from home (maybe in the great white north) I would rather not drag the trailer. If it's only a couple hundred miles then I would just ride it.
Just looking at options .....
Also , if I buy NEW out of state they will likely make me leave the dealer with bike in truck or on trailer as it wont get titled till it gets to FL. (Been there done that and that's normally how it works)

I personally wouldn't do it. Too close for comfort for me. There are a couple of pitfalls that are not evident, of which you should be aware. The Spyder has very low ground clearance, and bottoms out easily where the ramps end. Be sure you have long enough (and strong enough) ramps, and a hill or loading dock at each end of the journey, to be sure you can load. A hung up Spyder wedged halfway into a pickup would not be fun to deal with. Second difficulty is tie-downs. In a pickup you will not be able to tie the Spyder down using the recommended method (in the Spyder manual), through the wheels, tied fore and aft. You are going to have to compromise, and tie more sideways. The Spyder could shift in the close quarters, so stabilize it with extra ties.

If I had access to a flatbed car hauler or another acceptable trailer, that's what I would use, no matter how inconvenient. It's an eas way to haul one. Something to think about.

Bought mine in Pennsylvania rode it to Jersey They gave me 30 day Temporary Plates.

One guy on here does this... Tows his truck behind his motor home with the Spyder in the back of the truck.

He calls a tow service once he stops somewhere, and he has them use their flatbed to drive the spyder off of and back on when needed. Very safe, no ramps needed, and I guess because they do not actually have to tow anything the cost is relatively cheap...

No way I would trust that tailgate to hold up the weight of the Spyder. And there isn't anything "wanna-be" about an Avalanche. It's a great truck. :ohyea:

Where is your adventurous spirit? Safe is boaring!

I'm all for adventure, I am against my $20K motorcycle falling out of the back of a truck because I didn't use a proper trailer. I have had a tailgate fail on my before - on our Silverado.

Nows the time to concentrate on the Best Possible deal whether your buying an 09 or New.nojoke
Being a tough cookie in the Sale will make renting a trailer seem like chunk change?:ohyea:

Over 10,000 miles driven with Spyder in the Avalanche. Four straps (three heavy duty car hauler straps and one ATV type blue) hold the Spyder in the back of the truck. If the tailgate broke, the straps would keep the Spyder in the truck. I would recommend the trailer option for most people but it is illegal to tow the trailer behind the truck and motorcoach. Trailer would also not meet the legal length requirement since I am over 65 feet long now with motorcoach and truck. :yikes:

Anything can fail. But I'd say a properly maintained tailgate will hold the Spyder just fine. Expecially if you back it in to where the weight is not on the outer edge of the tailgate.

Besides, just because the tailgate fails doesn't mean the Spyder has to fall out on the ground. It should be strapped in to prevent it moving rearward at all no matter what. Not saying that the tailgate failing is a good thing, just saying that should not cause a Spyder to fall out of the truck altogether.

Yes and I have a dually with 8 foot bed. It wont be on the tailgate. I have 61 inch wide opening. According to the specs it is 59 inches wide overall. It just has to be backed in because of the wheel wells.
I also like the idea of the tow truck for when I get home.

Chevys had an issue with their tailgate straps failing around the 2002 model year. It was never a recall but if they broke and did damage to the vehicle Chevy was fixing them. They would also give you new straps (cables) if you ask for them.

They put new straps on mine and fixed the dent in my tail gate when they broke while I was loading an ATV .. all warrenty even though the truck was way beyond the 3-36 at the time.

Did anybody catch the Spyder that was loaded INSIDE a SUV at the owner's rally? I saw it while walking into the Universal Sheraton hotel Friday night. I don't know how they got it in (or out) or where they came from. I'd really be worried if it was me driving.
