I'm not a hunter, family is. But I understand you should hit right behind the front leg to get the heart and /or lungs? Looked too far back from what I saw in the video.

Above the shoulder.look at the anotomy where heart and lungs are.

Hunted many years. You take shoulder bone and go back u will gut shoot them :gaah:

Remember; this animal was quartering away from the shooter. You have to aim for a spot on the surface of the animal that is further back, than if he was standing perpendicular to you...
This allows the arrow to travel forward through the body, and right into the "boiler room". :thumbup:

I agree, the shot looks to far back, however it's angling towards the opposite shoulder. Perfect hit.

As far as not being sporting, he didn't just walk up to it and shoot it. he called it in, and kept his cool while a 1000lb + animal which during the rut has been known to be extremely unpredictable came within feet of him.

He was dead on his feet. Rarely will any animal go straight down when shot with a arrow or a bullet, unless the spine is hit.

:agree: The animals almost never fall in a heap when struck by a broadhead.
Death from a bullet comes from the massive tissue damage caused by hydrostatic shock...
Broadheads kill, by causing bleeding.
I've shot deer at ranges from seven, to eighteen yards from me. None have ever dropped. This is part of what Bowhunting as about: learning to follow the blood-trail, and track down your fallen game.

Didn't notice until i looked at video again. And forgot moose has a kill area size of an oven door

I do not hunt but don't have any problems with others hunting...as long as they use the meat. At first I thought the moose was gut shot, too, but can see now what others have said about the arrow going forward into the vitals.

As for sporting...I always thought the idea of bow hunting was to get as close as you can to your target, the better to get a clean kill. That's pretty much what this guy did.

That being said, I hope they used the meat and weren't just hunting for the antlers.

I've always said that the perfect shot; is that one that you need to take a step backwards, in order to draw the bow!!

And :agree: about the use of the meat... why kill an animal just because it had the poor sense to grow some large headgear? :dontknow:

Since I'm not a hunter I could easily be wrong, but I seriously question the wisdom of going after moose with a bow. Moose need no provocation to attack, and they are the only animal I have ever heard of that a logging truck will lose a battle with.

Including Black Bear, Brown Bear, and Polar Bear...nojoke
No doubt; an angry Moose can turn you into a blob of Human Peanut Butter and Jelly as quickly as any of them... :yikes:
But at least when they're done re-arranging all of your parts; they're not going to start eating you!!
