• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What did you do to your Spyder today?

I did my Spyder firmware update to V 5.1.0. I use an iPhone but the Android folks might appreciate that BRP Go! maps now work, or not happy depending upon your views about BRP Go! maps.

I stared at my Spyder after my southern Utah trip and thought I should give it a good bath. Then I realized if I did that, I'd have nothing to do tomorrow. So it languishes looking all dirty until I get round to it tomorrow.

It's now done about 1,300 miles since I bought it and has averaged 45 mph and 38 mpg gallon. I think it's well run in now.

You can also download an Acrobat PDF copy of the Operator's Guide here:

I have a had a hard copy and down load, along with service manual. It was more an excuse to meet the seller and he gave us two modular helmets. Also nice day for 85 mile ride. We stopped by Edmonds waterfront on the way home.

Hi Lew L.

I did not do anything to my Spyder, because we had thunder showers & I was catching up on life from my "Life Curve" which started in May, 2019, continuing up to May 2023.

How many miles do I have on my Spyder?

About 48,000. Second set of fronts, first rear pads. Low milage because I also ride around on a poor, old, slow Yamaha V-Max...

Did a fourth ride today on the 'new to me' 2018 RTL. Left Lake Stevens area, went up Highway 9, a nice bike highway, crossed over to Conway and on to La Conner for lunch with friends at the Firehouse restaurant, seen in the video across Morris St where I was parked. Drove the front street and if the video, works - you can see all the restaurants and tourist trap shops. The La Conner Tavern is known for good fish and chips, BTW. Came back through Stanwood and Marine Dr back to Marysville and onto the RV membership RV Park in Lake Stevens. My wife (now departed) and I had a waterfront home just past the Rainbow Bridge, which is visible near the end of the video, on the shoreline of the Swinomish Channel in Shelter Bay Community. We looked at the bridge from the reverse angle.

Like mecsw500 I downloaded and installed the 5.1 software update on my Canyon. I intend to continue using A.C.P. as my primary navigation/audio interface as it has worked fine since I discovered that the USB C connector is orientation dependent but it is nice to have a back-up if the battery on my headset goes cold. After installation I conducted a shakedown of the new system while I went out for groceries. Everything still worked as before and we will feast tonight!

I bought the following to label my USB cables and to determine which are orientation dependent (which they shouldn't really be).

I got it on Amazon:

Treedix USB Cable Tester Board USB Cable Checker Data Wire with Acrylic Case Charging Test Data Line Type-C Micro Type A Type B

Hope that helps.

That seems like some very low miles to have warped rotors. Are you sure that there isn't some buildup on the rotors that could be causing this? Same thing happened to my Kawasaki a few years ago. Cleaned the rotors with brake cleaner and a stiff brush, good to go.
HI Albec,

I know it is very low mileage for having warped rotors. I will know more when I get a chance to look at the rotors (I am dealing with a lot from the "Life Curve " that I had in May 2019 to May 23, 2024). When I get a chance I'll let you & everyone know what I see on the OEM rotors.

HI Lew L,

I have 8,747.2 miles on my Spyder (life gets in the way). This will be my first set on the front since I have had the Spyder.

I just went through all my USB cables that have a USB-C connector at one end. I didn't find any of mine that were reversible on the USB-C end that caused them to stop being data cables. From the specification data cables should be reversible without issue. I did find some that looked like data cables that turned out to be power cables, and I even found some cables that had been actually wired up partially or just plain incorrectly. I just cut up all the bad ones so I couldn't grab one in error sometime and spend hours trying to figure out why something didn't work.

Now I have everything labelled from USB 2.0 to USB 4. I have them all temporarily labelled and wrapped with Velcro ties, so I can get everything set up in a couple of minutes wherever we get to. I've ordered a lightweight small kit bag for personal care items to put it all in. So from tomorrow, everything should all be neatly stored and ready to hand instead of the usual tangled mess of various cables and chargers I've traveled with for years. I've ordered one of those label makers to do it properly when that comes tomorrow. I've been planning this project for years and finally got sick of unplugging everything in the house to take with us, only to have to put everything back when I got home. I have tons of cables, but was lacking all the other bits and pieces.

The Spyder now has two cables to the bars, the red one is power, the black one is data. All I have to do is swap them over in the glove box depending upon what I want to do. I could get a miniature USB-A A/B switch I suppose, but that might be a little too obsessive.

We did my Obligatory Chuckanut Drive ride today to take a picture of the new to me Spyder at a stop where I have been taking new vehicle pictures for decades. On edit: Added a second photo is check if I am still having issue attaching photos.

Completed the brake pad replacement in my 2014 RTS. Struggled a bit to get the rear caliper back in place but got it. Now to get the bike off the jack stands and bed in the new pads. That's after weed-wacking the property for a couple of hours in the cool of the morning.

Great instructions from Ron BTW...
