Front windshield bracket replacement

Hi,

My front windshield bracket broke , so a friend of my father work in a precision machine shop with CNC router. i ask him if he can solder it. It's a casting aluminium (20%zinc-80%aluminium) and he say it a easy thing for him. i ask him also if they can make new one in stainless. They wil take measure and put in computer. They don't have price yet. I say maybe it will make him rich lol. It's take a little time because he only work on his own project when , he got some time left at work.

I will test it with RT 2010 but i think it will fit 2011-2012 , i don't know fo 2013.

Anyone who got RT will it be interest in new windshield bracket replacement ?

Nice idea but stainless is overkill, I would think just machining it from billet aluminum would be stronger than the cast part. I also believe there is a market for it from the number of people that have broken them. "Build it and they will come"

I want one, stainless is OK with me.

In case I'm being a little subtle, YES I want one.
Mine broke after about 12,000 miles and I'm now up to 26K. They replaced it with the SAME piece and I figure I'm living on borrowed time.

Better take a close look at the replacement procedures first. There was a question about whether the link was readily removable without dismantling the shaft and affecting the indexing of the positioner. Any replacement would have to address that with explicit instructions and possibly a clamp-on, two-piece link and a method for grinding off the old one. Nothing is as simple as it seems.

Hi,

There picture taken today when i receive the bracket ,i have grind it to look better wishing a lot better from a guy who work in precision machine shop. I can make better job,clean and nice solder. I will try tomorrow to fill the geometry form to make it flush with my aluminium mig welding. The more i play with the bracket more idea come up to making it stronger.




As preventive method remove the 3 pins windshield and fill the geometry hole both side flush with J-B Weld, it will reinforce the bracket and the color is dark grey, you will have two tone bracket.

You are correct.
7075 would be my choice.
May not be that difficult to reverse engineer the part,make a program and run it on a CNC mill.

But they would not sell for cheap!

Ok the man don't want to play anymore with the parts. So talking with a friend he remember me that he work in a mechanical engineering school , he will try to make a replica. Exact same thing. I have to meet dealer next week. Maybe by the time he work parts. We could not try the new parts. I will have new parts , and i don't know if i want to disassemble the bike when back home.

Yes we will align all the thing and inclued the hexagon bar already fix. On the left side you have gear and the right the magnet. You remove both side and slide in the new parts at the same place on hexagon.
The motor bracket use magnetic switch. It the magnet you have on the right side and brp put notch on the parts you know how reassemble it. If we come out with parts even a kid wil it be able to do the process. I do thing professionaly or nothing.
