I've seen them on here go bad anywhere from 1,500 miles on up. Their replacement is part of the 12,000 mile service so I've been told.

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I rode with a bad gasket for about a month and over 2,000 miles, including a trip to and from the Gatlinburg Rally. There was a noticeable increase in heat under the body panels by my thighs but no apparent permanent damage to my legs or the Spyder.

Mine probably went bad at around 3,000 miles.
The right side gasket seems to be the one that is failing the most, it is the one that is closest to the engine and the short length of exhaust pipe from the engine to the gasket is mostly behind the engine and blocked by any airflow in the engine compartment.

Is this an absolute problem...for all Spyder owners? Meaning, we should take care of this before it's a problem? Will the dealerships be aware of faulty gaskets?
I have to take it in for servicing...I should have them order the gaskets and replace them (under warranty), when I get there? I'll assume to use the numbers above in this thread and they'll switch to the newer ones when they plug them in on their end?

Mine went out at 2,500 hundred miles and I probably went about 500 more before I changed it. I just had the dealership mail me one since I didn't feel like wasting a day for the warranty repair. When I tore it apart the right gasket was about 70% gone and the left side was fine.
I thinking it has more to do with the proximity of the rights side gasket to the cylinder as compared to the left side. Much more pipe before you get to the gasket on the left side where as it's a short distance on the right.

rough running with exhaust leak
i've noticed that the exhaust leak at vertical joint coincided with rough running at stop/go and backfires on decellerations. suspect that fresh air/oxigen is entering exhaust pipe before the o2 sensor and skewing the engine management mixture control. i'll let the spyder rest until the dealer receive delivery of new gaskets as i recommend to any with this problem . exhaust leak near the fuel tank could be dangerous and also cause engine valves damage due to rapid cooldown when turned off.

.... thought on why the right gasket seems to be the one that blows out after looking at things needed for yet another exhaust system.
The exhaust hanger is on the left side... allowing the right to flex more. Even with the spring in place, bumps in the road will allow the up/down motion to happen. Once the lower pipe has "bounced" down, the gasket is exposed to force of the engine exhaust (and it's impressive) without the casing of the lower pipe to support it.
Seems logical... and if I continue to use the stock flex joint seals, I will fabricate another hanger for the right side.

You can just order by the old part number but tell them you want the most current version.... the puter has the cross-reference. Last three digits changed but I didn't catch the new one.
The old is in the first post in this thread.

Just today I ordered the exhaust gaskets, just to have in case of leak, just like the spare relay.
The Upper Gaskets # 8( slip joint )# 707600546
The lower Gasket # 12(slip joint ) # 707600547
#8 and #12 relates to the exhaust part diagram.. Two #8's and One #12.
The Parts peeps could not find the old number on the upper and I then mentioned that he should have a list of the new replacement numbers. Wahlaah, he found the above numbers as the replacement for the old numbers.

... substitute for the upper joint gasket from a 2007-2008 Suzuki GSX R1000. Measurements appear very similar (1.75ID and 1.94OD). They also appear to be much more robust.

Will these work? I am thinking now that my blown gasket (and, I'm pretty sure there is at least one) is on the right side.
And if so, I wonder if a Suzuki dealer might have stock. I would really like to address this so I can hear the Hindle by itself!! Lol! :thumbup: Otherwise, I'll probably wait until I take it in for it's 6,000 mile service; which will be more like 8,000, now.

They certainly should although I haven't installed them... measurements are good and they look more robust.
I accidentally ran across them while collecting parts for a new dual side exhaust system based on the 2008 Suzuki GSX-R1000 cans. I'm eliminating them on the new system... using stainless flex joints instead.

I've been reading about these gaskets blowing for some time now. When our Spyder began to get louder, we took it in for what I assumed was a blown gasket in the vertical pipe right hand side. I just got off the phone with the dealer and he says they are replacing a cracked exhaust pipe. Has anyone else heard of this?
