Called BRP about disparity of the break in mileage recommendations

I called BRP this morning about disparity of break in mileage service recommendations between owners manual and dealership recommendations on my 2014 RT.. the person I talked to said they checked & the 600 mile recommendation is correct.. I was also told that there are 2 campaign service bulletins that affect the 2014 RTs.. Dealer should have the announcements from BRP...

Thought I would pass on my findings after talking to BRP ..

This comes up far too often. I can understand when the 1330 was brand new, but it's been a year.:shocked: Dealer education a problem?

Sorry if there are other threads already about this. I have a 2012 RT currently so I haven't been paying close attention to the 1330 ACE threads. I've got an F3 on order, so I want to be prepared.

The 998 (since filter update) requires break in maintenance at 600 miles then regular maintenance each 4600 miles thereafter.

the 1330 requires break in maintenance at 3000 miles and the regular maintenance every 9300 miles thereafter. I have 25000 miles on my 2014 RT and have had the first three required maintenances . I might add without burning a drop of oil...

Do you mean "break-in" or interval to the first oil change? My '14 RTS went to 3000 miles before it's first service. But for the first few hundred miles I tried to take it easy on the speed, etc.

I am curious as to who it was at "BRP" you talked to. Surely nobody at the tech support office for Can Am products would have given you such bad information.

Page 122 of the 2014 RT manual says that the Break-in servicing occurs at 3000 miles.
9300 miles between servicing.

Ahhhhh Semantics. Is this what we mean?

Break in: The time allowed to loosen up the engine, get all parts seated properly etc. Most new motorcycles should be driven at varying speeds and gear positions, easy on the brakes and tires, and no high speed red line operation the first 500 miles or so.


Break in service intervals: the 998 goes back to the dealer for the first oil change at around 600 miles.

The 1330 goes back to the dealer for first oil change at 3000 miles, then at 9300 miles later.

Ok...I got this from BRP after my phone conversation today 12/2/14 .. its a correction of what I was told earlier today...

Thank you for taking the time to contact BRP. this is an exact copy of the email I received:

I followed up further with our Technical Department regarding the break-in inspection on your 2014 Spyder RT. This model was given a new engine for 2014 and it does not require a break-in inspection until 3000 miles. Please see below the information I received:

"As the engine on the RT 2014 have change, we now recommend the first inspection at 3000 miles. The RS and ST model still have the old engine model. There is no error on the ops guide. I highly suggest to call back the customer as this inspection cost few hundred dollars."

it's the same old problem..what year and model do you have. Because the 2014 RT's got the new engine some are thinking all 14's got the new engine. So remember the ST, RS and RSS still have the same engine as before. This is why we stress posting year and model...:thumbup:

AT 9300 miles, or 9300 later at 12,300? I have seen 2 different quotes on this recently??

Once you get past the original 3,000 break-in service; oil changes occur every 9,300 miles, OR one year...
