Blue Skies, dry roads, and 70° - Great Spyder Ride! If this is "global warming", bring it on!

Earlier this week, here in Northern Illinois, we had some temps in the 20's and more than a dusting of new snow. I was ready to put Stabil into the RT and say goodbye for the winter. But I decided to wait before taking that drastic step. Today it was almost 70! With blue skies and dry roads. Went out for a two hour, 70 mile ride that was as nice as any I have had all season. I could live with this "Global warming" all year round, but I know that won't happen. Most years it is right about now, mid November, that whatever motorcycle I have is put to bed for the winter. Stabil in the gas tank, battery tender on the battery, a rag stuffed in the tail pipe to keep critters from nesting, and maybe a cover over the bike until at least mid-March. But maybe this year will be different with a chance to have an enjoyable ride in early December, and an early Spring in early March for only a three month hibernation.

Well, here in Vermont we have a messy snow storm this weekend, starting on Saturday night into Sunday. The current temp is 35 degrees. My Spyder is in hibernation until April. It has Sta-Bil in it, and I did the oil and filter change, put it on a battery maintainer, and tucked it in for the winter. I hope we have a short winter. I will be getting the snowmobile ready for the snowmobile season, which is Dec. 15 to April 15th, so I don't have much down time between the motorcycle season and the snowmobile season.

Well yesterday's sunshine and today's mostly cloudy sky were good for some Ryde Time. But last week, I put my Spyder in Winter storage till Next Spring. This is just the way these things go.

I'm thinking my Spyder season is done. Since I'm picking up my new toy Tuesday, any available riding time will be on it to add to its 7.2 odometer miles :)7a72a03a-9a96-4b37-8a4a-171327679c27.jpg

Yesterday, November 14th here in NW Minnesota, we had a high temp of 60, sunny skies and a slight breeze. It made our possible last ride for the season wonderful.

Good luck with the new bike. After I bought my Spyder RT, I thought that I would truly miss the two wheel experience, so I bought a new Royal Enfield Hunter 350. It was a fun little bike, but in hindsight, I was frustrated with the lack of power and low top end speed possible. But the bigger issue was that whenever it was a nice day and I was free to ride, I tended to take out the RT. When I rode the Hunter, it seemed it was just because I was feeling guilty for not riding it. So after about 18 months I sold the Royal Enfield and have not missed it. The steering of the Spyder versus the leaning of a two wheeler has not been as big a sacrifice as I had thought it would be. And I don't miss my former main ride, a Goldwing, even a little bit.

70° Thursday and Friday here in Utah, but no more. Winter starts moving in this afternoon and brings rain and snow tonight. Now that Spyder is up and running, it's time to put it away. I won't bury it too deep, as we always get a January thaw with temps in the 50's and 60's that lasts a couple of weeks, and March can start some great weather.

I know that many do an oil change before putting it away for the winter, but I have always waited until Spring and had the oil change then. Been doing this for about 40 years without any problem. Putting the Spyder away for me means just adding Stabil to the tank, and a rag stuck in the tail pipe. I routinely keep the battery on a battery tender when it is not being ridden, whether for overnight or for the winter months, and I have only very rarely ever needed to replace an original battery.

Yeah... I had a KTM 390 Duke for a season, until I sold it in April 2024. I regret that decision, hence the 401. :)

Mid 70s, sunshine, and dry roads is normal Winter weather for Florida. Gets cooler at night, but usually warms up by about 09:00.
