• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Check Engine Light

sidetrack

New member
The other day I went out to take a ride and my Spyder was deader than Cassy's Cat,:sour: (You don't want to know):sour: I charged up the battery and now I have a check engine light on. Anyone have any ideas why? Also why did a perferctly good battery go dead? I did give the Spyder a bath.

The battery likely went dead from parasitic losses. Depending on how long it sat, it could be normal or abnormal. Some RTs have a problem with the radio drawing too much juice when the Spyder is not running. Your dealer can check for this and replace the radio if necessary. I believe there is a service bulletin on the subject. The battery terminals (at the battery and not under the seat) should be checked for cleanliness and tightness, too.

The check engine light is another matter. You are going to have to pull up any active fault codes (MODE, SET, turn signal cancel held simultaneously), or have the dealer put it on BUDS and check for active or occurred fault codes. Could be a sensor, bad battery connection, weak battery, etc.

Check Engine Continued

First, Thanks for replying! Second, The fault is P0504. The battery went dead in three days and it was dead, I checked the cables. I don't have any idea if there is a relation but I just got back from Cowtown getting the throttle body upgrade done.:hun:

P0504 is a fault code for "Brake signal not plausible". That means the brake signal vs the brake pressure correlation failed. It could be the result of a short circuit, given the battery is running down. It's going to take some troubleshooting. I'd get it back to Cowtown if you can, or at least give them a call. Could still have a secondary radio issue, BTW...have them check it.

Check engine light with no error codes

My check engine light has come on the last 2 times riding my 2011 RTS. I start out fine, reaching my destination. Than when I leave, the check engine light comes on and stays on the whole way home. I check for error codes, but there are none displayed. I live in AZ, and notice the ambient temp is at 123f. Is the temp causing this or is there a different issue? Do I need to bring back to the dealer? 4800 miles on it. :dontknow:

Check engine light

Riding a 2011 RTs and have check engine light come up. The only thing I found in common for it to come up is " hard" acceleration or higher speeds. Average 110 km/ h no problems but when I overtake and open it up the light will come up sometimes it stays intermittent for a while some times only once. Dealer says it is a faulty o2 sensor?? Have noticed a slight fuel smell as if it runs rich in those conditions. Tried fault code but nothing comes up. Due for a replacement on the o2 sensor. Otherwise it runs like a dream . Luv it

It could be a faulty O2 sensor, or it could be a problem with the ambient temperature, which is near the upper limits that the Spyder systems can understand. The dealer likely pulled up the occurred codes from BUDS. The fact that you see no active codes indicates the problem is intermittent. If it is short-lived and does not cause limp mode, I would not worry about it during periods of high temp operation.

Thanks a lot. The o2 replacement is free, so will let that be done and then monitor it. If it works it works if not we will blame ambient temperature. I like the ride and the quirkiness of our addiction!!

P1614 ; Throttle body. See your dealer it needs to be replaced.

Well, the 5000 k (3000 mile) service done, o2 sensor replaced under warranty. First up seems good, lo and behold filled up to day and consumption jumped from 28 m/gallon to 31. Will check on the next long trip to confirm.
